The Simpsons went to crap as soon as Matt Groening left to do Futurama.

I agree.

And I could then argue that Futurama knew when to quit, unlike the Simpsons (although I would like to have seen a couple more seasons. ;))

I would still rather watch a new episode of The Simpsons then some of the stuff on TV so I will miss it when it finally ends. Its the one show that I always look forward to every fall and have since I was in grade school.

whats the other show....American dad or something like that is better than the simpsons.

Anybody here watch adult swim? what the hell is up with pefect hair forever.....thats show is stupid it makes my head hurt.

Haven't seen that one specifically, but as far as Adult Swim goes, I love Harvey Birdman, as you may remember from my previous avatar.

Yeah, but Futurama was crap. It never even had a chance to go downhill. :p

Amen to that. Hard to go downhill when you're already at the bottom.

I still hope for some new Futurama episodes. I really enjoyed the characters and story.

I think it was one of the greatest shows.

Simpsons always surprised me with their ability of creating new episodes of the same great quality again and again. I was actually waiting for the time they would start producing not so brilliant ones and just sell the brand to make money, but they never did. I have not seen the very last ones though.

I have a suggestion for you - watch Seasons 9 through 17. Obviously you haver never seen them or else you wouldn't make such a comment. :p

Not sure if this has already been posted, but:

Homer Simpson hit the big screen on Friday in a short teaser trailer announcing “The Simpsons” movie.

The “Simpsons” teaser debuted prior to the opening of 20th Century Fox’s latest animated film “Ice Age: The Meltdown.” The clip announces Fox’s July 27, 2007 release date for “The Simpsons” movie.

The animated 25-second clip opens on a giant superhero S. “Leaping his way onto the silver screen,” intones a narrator, “the greatest hero in American history!” Cut to Homer Simpson sitting on his couch in his tighty whities. “I forgot what I was supposed to say,” he says. The narrator continues, “ ’The Simpsons Movie,’ coming to the screen, July 27, 2007.” “Uh, uh,” says Homer, “we better get started.”

The long-running animated television series created by Matt Groening and developed by James L. Brooks is currently being adapted for the big screen at Film Roman Studios in Burbank.

“The Simpsons” has been on television since late 1989. It started as a segment of Fox’s “The Tracey Ullman Show” in 1987-88.

I've been watching The Simpsons religiously ever since the first full-length episode. I'm such a fanatic that I've taped every episode and have stacks of VHS's devoted to Simpsons episodes cluttering up my living room, my garage, my bedroom, my closet, etc. I must watch two or three episodes a day, on average. I've read all the episode-guide books. I drop obscure lines into everyday conversation. Having said that, I really wish they would let the show die a dignified death (though I suspect it may be too late).

:(

No way, Futurama was great and still is. I watch it every night on Adult Swim, even though they only have like 4 seasons, and I've seen every episode plaenty of times. It's very creative, and smart. Great series.

Did anyone here ever see Fr. Ted made by Channel 4? IMHO funniest show ever made, not even the Simpsons in its prime came close to it. IMO of course :p

I think the Simpsons could go on for another 10 seasons...but not at its current set up.

Let the kids grow up. Put them in high school (or in Maggie's case, Junior High). Some of my favorite recent episodes are the ones where they look into the future somehow. Let the stories revolve around Bart being a hell raiser in HS rather than Elem. How many times can Bart screw with Principal Skinner and G.K. Willy? Put in some new characters. Take out some old ones. Skinner's mom dies but give Comic Book guy a wife. You could easily get 5 good episodes out of that. Rod & Todd leave for a Christian Boarding School but put more of a light on Dr. Hibbert's kids. You could still keep with the old gags (ie. Maggie never talks, Milhouse crushing on Lisa).

And perminately split up Homer and Marge as so many episodes have suggested yet never followed though with. Marge-centric episodes would be lame but Homer out there on the town could give you a good 10 episodes. Homer's and Bart's hairbrained schemes would be a lot more beleivable if Bart was old enough to realize, and even plan, what he was doing.

<snip>

Or... just let the series die. It is a shadow of its former self and lacks the excellent writing and creativity it once had. Seasons 2-7 were the best, this show should have been cancelled years ago. Sad, really - I watched Simpsons religiously when it initially aired, but now I couldn't be bothered. So old and tired. Like with many other things, they don't make 'em like they used to. :(
