I'm just about to buy an imac. I'm not a huge gamer but I couldn't imagine not having sims on my computer.
I've used windows as long as I've used computers, but have decided that now is the time to change. I was planning on buying Vista to put on the new machine but eventually realised that the only reason I was planning to do this was to play sims. I figure it is problably cheaper to buy all the sims 2 games again than it is to buy a copy of Vista.
However what I'm worried about is adding modifications to the game which I do regularly at the moment, so what I'm actually asking do the same modifications that work on the PC version work on the mac version? And would you recomend Sims for mac or to use vista to play the game?

Thanks for answering and I hope this wasn't to waffly

I used to play the Sims, and ALL mods worked as advertised, period.

You have to buy the DVDs, check Aspyr.com to answer any other questions.

If you own the game already... 'Stealing' it is technically not stealing it ;)

That might be a better way to ... acquire the Sims for Mac. (gosh I haven't played that game in years)

Are you referring to downloadable content? Such as what is on TSR or other fan sites where artist/users create their own Sims 2 content?

If this is what you mean, and you've already purchased/downloaded a lot of PC content, you may want to contact the sites you downloaded from, as well as where you intend to download in the future, to ask about OSX compatibility. I also play Sims2, but I have PC versions which I play on my Vista PC laptop.

If I were you, I would install a Windows XP partition on your new iMac, for a few reasons. When transitioning between XP/Vista and OSX, you are going to run into some programs you are presently used to using, and this way you can still utilize the important ones, while you locate the OSX counterparts to replace them. Macs come with the best out of box software solutions of any other computer on the market today, but there still may be the odd PC only program here and there that doesn't yet have an OSX equivalent (or you aren't yet aware of it).

Good luck and happy simming! :)

I concur about installing XP, it uses far fewer resources than Vista and is going to be widely supported for a lot longer.

Upgrading to Vista might be a reasonable choice in say... A couple of years.

Having an XP partition also allows you to play your current copy as well as any other PC game that might take your fancy.
