ive searched the forums and didnt find anything similar to my problem already in a thread, so i was just wondering if anyone else had any problems with the sims 3 installer not launching?

ive got the physical CD which was bought from a game shop and after putting the cd into my mac, the launcher bounces and then crashes. ive tried restarting and relaunching and neither of these work..
my mac is a macbook 160GB and has the necessary requirements printed on the back of the game so im not sure would could be causing it to not install

any help would be awesome

why would the launcher be blocked by a firewall if its launching straight off the disc?

im guessing the system profile report you were asking for is this, let me know if its not:

im running OSX 10.5.7

i used my friends mac, which is the same as mine, this week to play sims 3 which is running OSX 10.5.2 and his works perfectly.

My MacBook is virtually identical to yours (running 10.5.7 as well) and I have the same problem. It's odd that 5.2 would fix the problem since the Sims case specifies 10.5.7

I would very much appreciate help as well in getting this game to run as I have already dumped a good deal of money into it. If 10.5.2 can fix the problem could someone show me how to downgrade (assuming apple allows that).

Thanks.

i found the answer to my problem.
my harddisk was hidden, and after searching the sims 3 forums i found that some other people had the exact problem as i had, and were told to do this:

"We are now aware of a Mac OSX problem reported on Mac forums where user's hard drives somehow become hidden on their computers. This makes it impossible to install The Sims 3 and possibly other application to that hard drive. A solution that has worked is make your hard drive visible again following these steps:

0. Take any CD's / USB drives / iPods / connected disks out of the machine.

1. open Terminal (Applications/Utilities/...)

2. make sure you are using an Administrator account and have the password

3. type the following:
ls -lOd /
(That's lowercase ell, lowercase ess, space, minus, lowercase ell, capital oh, lowercase dee, space, forward slash)

4. You should get something like this:
hostname:~ username$ ls -lOd /
drwxrwxr-t@ 32 root admin hidden 1156 Feb 8 20:35 /
(note it says "hidden" instead of "-")

5. To fix this, type:
sudo chflags nohidden /

6. Type in your password when prompted.

You should now be able to install to that hard drive. If you have partitions on your machine, you will need to unhide all the drives using:
sudo chflags nohidden /Volumes/* "

I did this on my mac, and now it works perfectly.

Wow, two terminal commands and the installer runs without any problems!

I happened to be in a tech support call with apple when I read your post so I have passed this information along to them as well.

Thanks again!

This is so frustrating! I'm having the same problem where I'm clicking on The Sims 3 Installer and nothing is happening. I've opened up my Terminal, and have tried typing in that code ("ls -lOd /') but I get this:

ls: lOd: No such file or directory

Desktop DB cores
Desktop DF dev

Install Flash Player 10 UB mach
Install Flash Player 10 UB.dmg mach.sym

I am using a Mac that has three accounts on it. We are all admins, but I've tried changing it so I am the only admin and that doesn't make a difference. Help! I am so stuck!!
