    Dear Forum Members,

We were developing a Skype Recorder for Android and got struck in the issue of simultaneous access of microphone by our app and Skype as Android does not allow two apps to access the microphone.

After reading some articles it seems that iPhone allows simultaneous access of microphone by two apps as many apps are available that do recording for Skype.

I want to find out is our assumption is correct that Android does not allow while iPhone does allow simultaneous microphone access?

Please note that on desktop system we were able to record Skype test call as Windows desktop allows shared microphone access.

    Thanking you very much.

iOS does not allow simultaneous access to a devices microphone(s) by two apps. It does, however, allow an app to explicitly export audio (such as from the mic) via inter-app audio or audiobus.

    Dear firewood,

    Thanks for your reply.

But there are many Skype recorders available for iPhone. How these work. In my opinion Skype will not pass the recorded audio to these recording apps and neither these recording apps would first record the audio and pass it to Skype.

    Thanks,

I don't think there's anything special you need to do. Just record audio. It's up to the user to make sure Skype is on speakerphone.

    Dear All,

Thanks for your reply. While when we were working for a similar app on Android there was problem in getting access to microphone. If our app run first then Skype could not get microphone access and if on the other hand Skype run earlier our app was getting problem in getting microphone access.

While on Windows 7 desktop machine our application and Skype could use microphone simultaneously. That is shared access of microphone was possible.

Now we want to make sure whether the behavior on iPhone for microphone access is like Android or Windows 7.

    Thanks,

Based on some google searches, it's definitely not possible in iOS 9. iOS will prevent two apps from using the microphone at the same time for obvious security reasons.

    Dear AxoNeuron,

Thanks again for the reply. Can you share some link where you have found about the mentioned security issue. I need to provide some reference to my senior hierarchy regarding the possibility or impossibility of our idea related to simultaneous microphone access.

    Thanks,
