Since there's no optical zoom, what is the point?

    What is the point of a digital zoom? How is it different than just cropping the image down and enlarging it, since the zoom actually adds no visual acuity to the picture, it's basically just performing a photoshop enlarge.

    True, but it is done in the camera. More convenient for those who can photoshop and required for those that can't photoshop.

    Digital zoom actually degrades the image quality. I will never use it.

    What did you expect, a zoom lens to pop out of the front of the phone?
    Guess you'll have to get an Evo now !,,,:eek:

    So does cropping and enlarging an image...

    Not...try looking up what cropping is. Maybe you are using "cropping and enlarging" as a single term but they are mutually exclusive terms. Enlarging, yes does degrade image quality.
