Since upgrading to Ventura 13.1 my notes app has emptied and two backups fail to open. So far have not noticed any other problems. MacBook Air M1 2020

Well, my test drive (clean install + migration) suddenly keeps emtying my entire user directory without warning. This is after much, much time waisting with setting up all the third party apps, plugins, VIs etc. Endlessly entering passwords and confirmations etc.Since upgrading to Ventura 13.1 my notes app has emptied and two backups fail to open. you need to talk to apple, that makes no sense (and no one else has reported it). something is up, find out what it is...Well, my test drive (clean install + migration) suddenly keeps emtying my entire user directory without warning. Then, the user directory empties, then is like starting all over again. Awful system upgrade this one. Over it.
Oh please, 'no one else'? Try a professional forum like Pro Tools Expert, Black Magic, UAD etc ... as for 'talking to Apple', anything about a mac pro in a recording studio is like talking to a lof of bread. Hopeless. In any case, here is the net result for those who use more complex rigs with a host of third party audio hardware or PCIE card drivers, dongles & authorisations, DAWs, NLEs, VIs & audio plugins *other than Apple:you need to talk to apple, that makes no sense (and no one else has reported it). something is up, find out what it is...

FWIW - In the past, I usually build a test OS on a separate drive then when all is good, clone that back to the system drive. In the case of Ventura 13.1, this has proven especially problematic for me - not becuase of any given DAWs, plugs etc - but becuase of the very nature of Apple's take on the OS this time. Clearly they don't care much about third party apps & especially the often complex interactions between third party drivers, authorisations, dongles etc. Ventura presents a billion pop-ups, notifications, warnings, overlapping windows & general awful confusion as it takes us all to task ... so much slower and nuttier than say Win11 or Ubuntu ...rant over.
In my case, I want about this several differnet ways, eg: cloning Monterey via Carbon Copy Cloner to a new disk, then updating to Ventura; or installing a clean Ventura on a new disk, then migrating from Time Machine etc etc. All of which resulted in the same mad s*itfight: Without going into all the bugs and general password madness, the net result was this -
After gradually working thorough the usual issues, at some point I always started getting error messages about keychain passwords, then wanting me to delete, or cancel, a bizzilion times for each and every pass. This went on for a bit, then at some point the OS simply deletes all of my user folder [!]. Incomprenhisible, have never had this kind of problem with any migration before.
In any case the bottom line was this: I turned off iCloud & any kind of iCloud syncing. Viola. Everything installed and verified as it should [albeit, always long-winded as per the case with Apple], but this time it stuck. Now I actually have a fully working Ventura OS with all of the DAWs, NLEs, drivers, VIs & plugs cut over & working - notwithstanding otherr pro complaints about ongoing incompatability with certain aps etc. Turn off iCloud syncing & especially keychain pw sync.
