Single 4GB Crucial RAM Stick

Will 2 of these on a Macbook Pro work, or will only one 4GB stick be recognized?

Check here, this guy tried putting in two 4GB RAM modules and apparently it worked fine, though he never posted an update (yet at least) of how it worked in heavy-use conditions.

slightly related but if i have a motherboard that has 4 slots and says max ram is 8gigs, is that absolute or based off the fact that there were no 4gig sticks that the time?

Yeah $500 a stick is a bit hard for me to swallow. I'd rather spend the the money of buying 2 sticks on a good SSD and boost my performance that way.
