Does anyone know if you can run a dual cpu mac pro with only one processor installed? People who have one CPU break will know :p

I'm planning to upgrade, but will probably do it in two steps due to cost.

My (limited) understanding is that while the machine will run fine, the fact that there are no sensors attached where the second chip would go will cause the fans to run at full blast.

    You can but:

    1. The single processor must be in CPU A (left side rear)

    2. You can not run mixed (different CPUs) - Both CPUs must match

    3. The fans will run at full speed

    I wouldn't recommend it.
