Better dictation is the one feature I was looking forward to. It's such a letdown that it will only be available on devices with 12GB of RAM.
Dude, me too! I’ve been wanting fast, accurate dictation the most out of the new Siri. I, of course, want all of the other new Siri and AI stuff, but my 16 Pro isn't going to cut it, and I may upgrade early to the 18 Pro just for the 12 gb ram for that dictation improvement.

Weird that out of the gate they’re already causing confusion by calling it both “new Siri” and “Siri AI” depending on context.

Yesterday I spent two hours with an AI trying to craft a combination of automation and shortcut to accomplish the following world-class challenge: Is it possible to play a sound (any sound) on the local Homepod before a Homekit automation runs and again after it completes. The AI provide one set of suggested steps after another. None of them panned out although, apparently, there is a way to programmatically wrap a sound file with Base64 and ... really?? In 2026??

So my test for the new Siri speaking to a Homepod is the following:

"Hey Siri, please play a default chime sound three times, then run procedure MyProcedure. Finally, play a chime sound three times after the procedure has completed."

If SiriAI and all the rest can't do that, it ain't fixed.

can you just keep the original voices if you don’t care about whatever the heck expressive means? I don’t want to lose my Irish Siri - reminds me of Angela Scanlon 😛

Do you mean every new Apple AI feature that Apple introduces from after the 16 Pro was advertised until eternity should be backward compatible with 16 Pro?

When it's only 2 years old and Apple has a game plan that isn't just thrown at a wall and sees what sticks? Yes.

If Apple Watch people want more than 2 years of OS updates on their Watch Ultra, you'd think that "Siri voices" and "dictation" should be functional on a 2 year old device.

When I received the new SIRI I did not get Expressive Voices, that according to my research is for iPhone 17 and above. I have the iPhone 16 ProMax. Boy, you really can’t trust Apple on anything they say.
