What new Siri AI is actually the old “AI” assistance. Personally I no longer need it anymore. From my usage with few LLM (Claude, ChatGPT), it’s unique characteristics are 1) it has to have its own initiative and 2) it can make its own decision (or reduce options into a few only). I didn’t see these two much in Siri AI demo. Probably, this is Google’s strategy to limit its capabilities - otherwise it will compete with Gemini.
Google aren’t in control here.

It’s definitely better than the old Siri but it’s still not there yet i know it’s only beta 1 so plenty of time yet but I still think grok is far far superior imo

The more I use it the more it doesn't work for me. So far my impression started at poor and is falling rapidly.

"Sorry somethings gone wrong, please try again" is the answer to most of our conversations.

When it does answer it is frequently wrong and won't remember any context.

I know this is a beta but I have basically given up on using it already which is what I did with old Siri years ago due to lack of utility and reliability. There needs to be some massive improvements in this beta cycle before it goes live or the vast majority of users will give up almost immediately too.

Siri is an alpha product -- not beta. It is so bad that I had to turn off the new Siri (disable, then reenable -- will allow you to select the old Siri experience). Asking me to unlock my phone to read text messages while driving, unlock my iPhone to make phone calls, playing "All My Favorite Songs" by Wheezer or favorite songs by Taylor Swift instead of playing songs from my favorite song playlist, asking to confirm before making a phone call. The new Siri has been a huge let down. These issues should have been identified and fixed before going to beta.

I'll try again later in the year. Maybe then Apple has its crap together.

Siri is a step backwards. Now when I tell it to play a playlist from my music app, it'll try instead to AI interpret and find a song that sounds like my playlist name. Old Siri knew what to do. Also, asking the age on someone on my contact list was perfect on old Siri, no Siri tries to search the web for a name that sounds like the one on my contact list. Same with a company on my contact. I've saved my preferred pizza shop's number on my contact, now when I ask it to call, it'll search the web for all the local pizza shops around me. lol. Do the programers even try out their product?

This has been a major problem and the reason I went back to the old Siri. This is why I say this should've been identified in internal testing. I think new Siri has a lot of potential, but it is a very early alpha product that's going to be years of testing before Apple gets it right. It'll eventually get there, but until it gets better, I'm staying away.

The new Siri is satisfying.... when it works.

In CarPlay, when I try to listen to music, I still get these "uh oh... a problem happened, please try again later" which is absolutely infuriating. I cannot, for the love of God, put the music I want in my car (with Siri). It worked ONCE out of 30+ times, with similar prompts.

I know it's a beta, but they had two years to polish this 15 years old Siri bug. They better not ship that to customers in September.

Other than that, the chabot experience is satisfying.

The playlist feature works for me. I just had to be specific and say play “MY xx playlist”.

With on device AI now there is no excuse for these types of errors. Siri can see what’s in your library on device and should be able to immediately act but like you I find it fails all too often.

thats odd as for me new siri works great for any music i ask it to play. granted it's beta 1 and some may have issues but for me it does everything i ask it to do. been a few times i've had to try again but thats to be expected for beta 1.

i no longer need to use gemini app which is all i wanted

How does Siri AI behave when offline and limited to on-device models?

I would love to learn what needs cloud and what doesn’t.

And has anyone tried Settings > Privacy > Apple Intelligence Report yet?
I just tried it and was getting an empty response. Then I realized it defaults to 15 minutes, you can change it 7 days. Once I asked Siri a question again the report was populated. It looks to include Apple's system prompt as well.

I asked it "what meeting do I have tomorrow" and it seems to have gone to private cloud compute for that.

Seems like a basic request that Siri should be able to handle, but no love!

‘Siri considering my direction of travel where is the nearest x?’

Siri gives me three options behind me.

I ask again and emphasize i dont want to turn around…siri says she cant tell which direction im traveling (on the highway). #fail

And one more thing, siri gives all directions in kilometers not miles despite my settings:
US in both region and measurement system.

Can other AI agents handle this? I do get annoyed with Maps or Google Maps where its finds locations behind me and int the opposite direction.

not sure, but since the iPhone (which was making the request) has Apple Maps and GPS in use and can defiantly tell direction of travel...this seems like an obvious feature for the new Siri

first test - someone on discord was having an issue uploading a video, and its a pain on ios to resize videos from the photos app. So I tried siri. ‘how can I resize a video from the photos app to share on discord’.

came up with the file size, even recommended to aim for 9MB to be safe.
I asked help in making a shortcut - it gave me some steps to make one myself.
I asked if it can make it for me - it said no it can’t access the shortcut app

so I go to the shortcut app and type the same thing into the ‘describe a shortcut’ and it makes it first go. So its decent, but the actual siri part doesn’t join up with its own apps properly yet. Baby steps

Somethings have worked well (OS related things, like changing settings), general responses are inferior to ChatGPT or Grok.

I love being able to make useful shortcuts simply by asking Siri, it’s such a massive quality of life improvement.

No longer do I need a third-party app now to resize images or even batch-process many at once while converting them to JPEG all at the same time. Handy for when some want a smaller size or only demand any format other than HEIF.

honestly its
- such a good feature as I find shortcuts horrible to build from scratch as you dont’ know all the different things it can access or how to sequence them
- Siri AI is genuinely decent at building and adjusting them

but *why* is something as simple as ‘make this photo/video smaller’ not a standard OS feature? especially with apps that have size limits - upload your driving license for ID? sorry photo too big. Oh this cute video I’ll share on discord - sorry 10MB max limit.

Apparently Siri AI can understand emails in other languages even if it is English only

I love this so much

I think what impresses me more is, while late, has actually beaten google to the punch when it comes to app intents and on screen awareness.

Being able to look at your message, and say ‘I don’t like this, make it sound more fun’ and then have the AI understand what you are referring to and actually change the text on the screen, is I think a really useful implementation of AI.

On Mac I was filling out a form on a website. The form wanted weight in kg so I asked to convert X pounds to kg and it responded “X pounds to kg is Y. Also I filled the form out.”

I was like “Uh, you filled what out?”

Siri responded “I completed the form on your screen with the kg conversion.”

Lo and behold she did. I was NOT expecting Siri to be reading the screen on why I was asking that and then to just fill it out. I was shocked.

Siri AI has a lot of potential.
