EU requires Apple to make the underlying engines open/interchangeable. Apple doesn't want to or can't comply by the way they have designed Siri. So they can't make it available.

What I don't understand is how the heck does one of the most valuable companies in the world - more valuable than Google - spend the last three or four years on god knows what and cannot even produce their own AI solutions and has to rely on Google. What were they doing all this time? What were their software engineers doing if not working on this? SMH.
Ive been using it for about 3 days now. It's pretty effing amazing to be fair. As it stands now, it only interacts with apple native apps. Id imagine by the time it released in september, a tonne of popular third party apps will allow access.
To be fair this is the first Beta. It is still 3months away for "Launch"

Two years too late. Apple needs to just kill Siri and start fresh. Siri has been doing nothing but disappointing people for over a decade. The name ‘Siri’ is synonymous with bad, useless technology

They have announced it would be first available in English only, had it been only beta, they wouldn’t need to highlight it this way

They are going very safe way but our blogger Petr Mara has found that Siri understand much more languages already but just in text regime. He was able to talk to her in Czech without problem. So it probably use Gemini underlying technology but not accessible through voice interface. you can only use Speech to text to enter text prompts.

I don’t think so. The DMA, whether you love it or hate it, is a flagship EU tech law initiative, and there will be no exceptions - especially for tech giants. Also, given the level of bureaucracy involved, repealing the DMA would take at least two to three years, and blocking iOS features for that long could result in significant financial losses for Apple.
Of course, Apple can also ditch EU market entirely (which won't happen). Dura lex, sed lex.

I've done some extensive testing of putting the exact same prompt into Gemini and Siri and they are both as good as each other. Siri has better contextual information because there are some parts of Google (notably Gmail) that Gemini can't dig into whereas Gemini has much better image generation capabilities. You gonna get this from the old Siri?
I can only assume the negative reaction is from people who have yet to actually use it and are rushing to make judgement. I can assure you the new Siri is leaps and bounds ahead of the old one in every aspect.
I get the opposition to AI but Apple haven't gone down the same route as the competition. ChatGPT etc are based on engagement, the products seeking to engage you in endless banter just so they can say people are using them. The new Siri isn't like that, its been programmed to just serve you the answer you need and thats it.
These boards complain year after year about Apple's lack of innovation yet the deep Siri integration has allowed them to make the natural language interface, the true innovation of LLMs actually work. You can just talk to your phone in plain coloquial language and it genuinely works. I asked Siri, in local English 'What was the name of that bloke I was just texting' and it gave me the correct answer. But it also did so in a sentence, none of this 'That's a great question, Dave! You are a genius for asking it. Did you know 'Bloke' is a British slang term for 'man'? bloat you get elsewhere.

Maybe in 2040. Screen mirroring has been around for two years and is still not available in the EU...
I want a smart Siri that can do more. I am not willing to let AI loose on my data.

They need to remove it so it doesn’t show up when you swipe down in Spotlight search. It’s messy and screws up the original spotlight search.
*Every* device capable of Apple Intelligence has the exact same new Siri experience, everything you saw at the Keynote. The only difference with the 12gb models (17 Pro/Max/Air) is that they have an extra interface letting them tweak the Siri voice and an improved transcription algorithm for dictation purposes.
Everything Pre-15 Pro (11 through 15) keeps the old Siri as it was last year. Is it worth upgrading for? Yes.
