This is interesting. I work in Carrollton, TX and hadn't asked Siri for the weather - instead used notification center. I also had noticed that since iOS6 Siri has been infinitely more responsive and improved.

Then again I hadn't asked these specific questions it looks like are confusing Siri. I have a feeling 6.0.1 is not far away and these will all be addressed.

I believe this is correct. When they straighten the maps mess out, this will probably be fixed automatically.

Not true. Just asked Siri where I was and she correctly showed me on Apple Maps. Think it is a Siri server issue. Probably due to the fact that a large number of new users were just added (those who upgraded from a 4 and those who have new iPads)

Gave up on Siri a long time ago.

Recently tried to use it again with a simple...take me home.
Repeated the question 5 times in different ways to no avail.
It simply can not understand me.

I am always surprised when I hear someone say it works and is useful.

...and that's because Siri uses Apple Maps to find the locations!

:apple:

Oooooooo . . . that, if true, would be an excellent example of "the Butterfly Effect". Apple gets in a pi$$ing match with Google, takes their bat and ball and huffs off in a pout, comes up with their own solution, and a hurricane batters the entire Atlantic Seaboard for a week. Well done!

It's time for Apple to hold a company 'townhall meeting', where big-wigs can spout buzzwords and all the peons can be forced to read "Who Moved My Qi?"

Oh where, oh where has Apple's QC dept gone? Oh where, oh where could it be???

It might be that Apple quality department consisted of one person that used the device on a daily basis and could get angry pretty quickly. I still remember that this person said the following:

"People will carry this phone in their pocket, he said. People also carry their keys in their pocket. “I won’t sell a product that gets scratched,” he said tensely. The only solution was using unscratchable glass instead. “I want a glass screen, and I want it perfect in six weeks.”"

In light of the current events...

Welcome to my world. The weather widget worked fine for "La Tuque, QC, Canada" in OS X 10.4, then in 10.5 and 10.6 it stopped working. It finds the town when I do a search but it never switches to it when I select it.

We could ask Siri. ;)

Besides maps is anyone having issues with other aspects of 6.0, such as texting? It’s become a pain for me lately with the spell correct even though I'm spelling something properly. It refused to allow me to type ill, and kept insisting on I'll. Mandatory kept correcting as man story. Very irritating, is it just mine is there a setting I need changing? All I know is its gotten worse since I went to 6.0.

This has always been the case. I've always appreciated that correction because I rarely write about being ill (or sick even), but often write that "I'll be right over". Wonderfully intuitive this iPhone.

I am one who really finds siri useful with minimal problems.

When I ask, "What will the weather be like tomorrow?" she gives me the forecast for Toronto, even though I'm in Vancouver. Does this happen to any other Canadians?

Ask Siri how many cities there is in Canada. If she says "Three: Vancouver, Toronto, Montreal" then you know there's a problem.

First Siri test I did on my iPad revealed this. I had no idea it was New York, Texas.

Just tried again. Problem still there. Even using a zip didn't work. I got it to answer weather for Brooklyn though.

Get the big media center cities right Apple. It is worth it to double check those.

Yeah, set up the new toys on Saturday, and upgrading from the 4, one of the things new to us was Siri. The weather thing was a big PITA. I don't buy the beta crap either, we're now into the next generation already, it should work!

I noticed this too. Siri was telling me it was going to be 96 today when the actual temperature is in the 60s.

Even when I say "New York, NY" or even manually type it in, it still goes to New York, TX...even though Siri actually says "New York City".

Thank you so much for picking this story up MacRumors! I've been having this problem over a week now and it pisses me the hell off. I usually keep my blinds closed in the morning to avoid the sun glaring in my eyes. So, I rely on Siri when I'm getting dressed to tell me the weather. I live in New York, and have ran outside with an umbrella, only to find clear skies and sun. I've stopped using her for weather after she screwed me over twice. They need to fix this.

If the sgs3 (just as an example) had this would it even be news?

Probably not on this site.

As for the glitch - I'm sure it's an easy fix. But attention to these matters in the press isn't doing Apple any favors.

One can write most of these things off as new OS version/bound to be glitches. On the flip side - some of these things, you would think, would be caught in the several beta versions before the release.

And on the sarcastic side. I don't know why some people complain that Siri is slow or doesn't understand your request. That lady has to be one of the hardest working/least paid per inquiry employees of Apple of all time to handle millions of queries and STILL be polite.

ETA: Sarcastic answer #2: You're asking Siri wrong.

The weirdest part of this is that it seems to be almost deliberately picking the most obscure possibility. Asking for weather for "New York" or even "New York City" or "New York, New York" is pulling weather from New York, Texas. And when I tried "Manhattan", it came up with some weird backwater for that too. Same with "Brooklyn". It almost seems like a prank.
