I'd be interested in a setting to have Siri listening all the time while plugged in to a charger and having a voice command act as holding the home button. So, the classic Star Trek interface of "Computer, <insert question here>", although presumably you'd want to address it as Siri as I can see the word computer coming up a lot in conversation.

I'm surprised no one has asked for it to be activated by a double-tap on the phone body, that the accelerometer could recognize.

Then you could keep the phone inside your shirt pocket, and just tap it as if it were a Star Trek comm badge... with of course a futuristic beep coming back as a prompt :)

I have a Samsung Galaxy Tab that has an app called Vlingo which is a very low grade version that works similar to SIRI. The one feature that I like about it is the ability to put it in a mobile mode (hands off). This activates it simply by using the voice command "Hey Vlingo", which causes it to respond by saying "what would you like me to do? Then you give it a command. It will be nice if SIRI gets a feature like this in the future. BTW you can also change it to say something else, for instantance you could have it say "What do you want now,(your name)? Or anything else you want it to say. I think that's real cool. I have an iPhone 4 but I will not be upgrading. Instead I will wait until the next iPhone release.

Hah, brilliant idea! I'd definitely use that.

I bet Siri can't execute the following:

- launch Facebook app
- dial 2123361440 using Skype app
- restart my iPhone
- check for software updates
- set passcode lock
- set brightness to 25%
- turn on WiFi/Bluetooth
- clear all notifications in the notification center
- show me the page that has the Angry Birds app
- delete Google+ app
- clear Safari browsing history
- back up my iPhone in 2 days
- check the App Store for any app updates
- translate the word HAPPINESS into French
- fetch lyrics for the currently playing song using Safari
- search App Store for the most popular social networking app and install it
- lock my iPhone
- (while on a call) turn on the speaker
- (while on a call) press number 3
- clear all notification badges on all apps
- mark all my mail as read
- show me all contacts whose phone number ends in 1440
- tweet the latest photo in Photos app
- mute all sounds at 12AM
- what is the next holiday in the US?
- define/pronounce the word spelt as P-A-N-A-C-H-E
- how do you spell the word [fəˈsäd]?

Send it to Apple as a request. Hopefully we'll see it in the following upgrades. Can't wait for Siri 1.1

So you have to click it each time you want to speak? I thought once you touch the home button it stays on?

As it was pointed out, when you stop speaking it stops listening and beings to search. I think the only time it still listens is if it asks YOU for a response. Like when you tell it to text somebody, it asks you what you want to say. I'm pretty sure you don't have to push the button again to say your message. I also don't think you have to push after it asks you if you want to send or not. Most of the people in the video did do this.. but I don't think you have to.

So if you ask one question then another after it you won't have to press it again?

Obviously it won't help your Star Trek desires, but I have read that Siri can also be activated by holding the phone to your ear when you are not on a phone call.

After watching the demo is it correct you can use the US voice instead of the UK one? After listening to them boh I would rather have the woman

The guy sounds odd...so being in the UK I hope I can still use the US voice.

If your accent is American you should use American, if British, you use British. I think it will have an easier time with it

So mcdonalds is the best food around because it has more restaurants? Your idea is clearly flawed.

and the Vauxhall Corsa is better than an Aston Martin, Pagani and any other super car simply because there are more of them on the road....

yeah, that logic doesn't fly...android lover.

Anyway, has no one else noticed that the British voice is quite clearly Alan 'voice of the balls' Dedicoat?

I've said in a previous thread imo Siri is a game changer and will take the world by surprise. It's not like any voice recognition we've ever seen. Come on guys, this is Apple, do you really think they would release something as important as this if it was half hearted and not innovative?!

It would be nice to be able to turn off some of the longer responses.

Siri's preference for long cutsie replies could get pretty annoying.

--

For example, when I say "mail john smith", I don't want Siri to respond with: "I am ready to send an email to John Smith. What would you like it to say?"

Just say "ready to mail john smith".

--

Likewise, "I am looking that up for you" is cute the first hundred times, but I'd rather just have "Searching Wolfram" and show me the results.

I'm pretty sure the long responses are to buy some much needed processing time ;)

Basically it shows people asking Siri to do things that was already proven it can do in the keynote demonstration. I want to see videos on how it interacts with bluetooth in a vehicle or something of that nature.

maybe so but people had doubts how well it could work period...some wasnt sure if it would work the same as it did on the keynote.

Cool, but I noticed that he had to keep tapping on the screen while using Siri. I'd like something I could use while driving to text people, send short replies to email, have it read me emails or txts. I wonder if it can do any of that and I wonder if it can work hands-free or if you always need to tap the screen or read responses from the screen...

EDIT: Another thought. I hope some day developers will be able to add 3rd party app support to Siri, so I could for example say, "show me the Galveston surf report webcam in SlothCam" and have Siri open the app and show me the webcam I wanted to see. There are so many possibilities!

he didn't need to do that, you only need to tap once and then again when you want to ask a new question. He was tapping it too much.

it works on hands free...you just click the bluetooth button.

I don't know if you guys saw this but you don't even need to tap siri to start it. It will also use the proximity sensor so you can set it to start when you just put it up to your face - similar to how he Google search app works. When you pull it away from your face it will stop and then process. To me, this makes it that much more usable because its quicker and you don't always have to hold the button. Instant on.
