I asked HomePod Siri to make a call to my wife today for the first time in a long while. Siri asked who I am. Fine, maybe I wasn’t clear. After I said my name, Siri proceeds to tell me to unlock my iPhone first. Well that kinda defeats the purpose of voice recognition and using it hands free. If I had my phone in my hand, I would just use that instead 🤦♂️.
When did this become a thing? This feature used to work just fine without issue. I’m on 17.5. How can such a premium device with just two freaking jobs (play audio and respond to requests) regress so badly over the years?!? Making calls is a basic main feature of the HomePod. To top it off, we haven’t even really had new features in a while so all those bug fix updates are just smoke and mirrors. These things should be highly polished by now, however, I can go on all day about all the dumb things my HomePods do.
Will we ever have useable HomePod software? I’m highly skeptical at this point.
On a brighter side, I can say that using whole home AirPlay 2 audio is working good. I guess I can’t have it all.
