Siri hasn’t earned my trust to do anything other than extremely simple tasks,

I was reasonably happy with Siri until I had the opportunity to use Alexa and have found them to be night and day. I’ve now bought several Echo devices and cancelled my Apple Music subscription, whereas 6 months ago I would have sworn that I would have bought the HomePod...
Well, honestly... one can be an Apple fan, but it makes most sense to remain on watch and critical. I am unfortunately never going to give any more personal info to Google, even if it is debatable whether that makes more sense or not.
But... shall I search the web for “does it make sense”?

Totally agree. I love all things Apple.... apart from Siri. You may think she’s good, and I did - but only because I’d never tried speaking to Alexa. Once you do you’ll realize it’s black and white. I believe anyone who says otherwise simply hasn’t used an Echo.

In the end you're choosing between the company knowing everything about you for more accuracy and one that limits what they know about you which leads to less accuracy. I'm actually amazed how smart Siri is with all things considered. It will prolly never be on par with Alexa or OK Google but that's because Apple limits how much data it collects where as Amazon and Google don't. For me Siri does what I need it to do. It almost always knows the songs I want played, and when I use my iPhone for news it does fine. Looks up restaurants fine on both Watch and iPhone. So yeah I don't need spot on accuracy, nor would I sacrifice privacy for that accuracy.

I agree with you, but there are absolutely things Siri is totally oblivious to that she could be figure out locally. I don't want Apple or Google or Amazon uploading everything I say to their assistant, but Siri can and should be integrating information far better on the actual device. She has no sense of context and no ability to chain queries together. There is also no reason why she can't be integrated with third-party apps (other than Apple holding back for some dumb reason).

That being said, Siri is actually fantastic on Apple TV. She hears very well, has great knowledge of content (titles, actors, directors, genres, etc.) and can control most aspects of the device (subtitles, scrubbing, settings, etc.). Why can’t she be similar on iPhone/Mac/Watch?

I'm assuming they are not counting the devices and macOS where it's disabled.

I asked Hey Google and Alexa “Who is Legolas’s father?” They both quickly answered “Thranduil”.

I asked Siri the same question.

First she told me she doesn’t know who my father is (but apparently thinks I’m talking about someone who is “legless”.

I tried again and she said that I don’t have a Lego List but she can make one for me.

Oh Siri.

Let’s hope she can hear much better on the Home Pod.

I could not get Siri to understand what I was asking. I had to spell out the name. Keep in mind this doesn’t confuse the other search assistants. They seem to know there is a Legolas out there and that I’m asking about him.

I had no problem when asking the same question. First attempt... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

That’s great! How did you get it to recognize Legolas’ name? I got everyone who is home tonight ...hubby, teenager, to try and we all got stuck with legless and Lego lists!

My husband also asked Siri “Who was the homerun king?” and she couldn’t answer, but Alexa and Google home rattled off the answer and some extra information. I suppose there’s a way of eliciting the information by asking the question a bit more precisely. But if you’re going to speak more colloquially, Alexa and Google seem to be more adept at accommodating that.

Yeah Siri is frustratingly retarded and I don’t understand how Apple continues to let her exist like this... but if you go back you’ll remember that Siri was an app and it was a SMART app. After Apple bought it they dumbed her down to fit their desires and she’s never been the same since... it’s quite embarrassing actually... I was hopeful that the wolfram alpha integration would’ve made her an amazingly smart assistant yet the damn **** can’t understand anything I say

Siri got me into the 4S in the first place. Played with it a while and then it becomes obvious that it needs to be treated like a sidekick instead of a main feature.
I can ask her "When is the Canadian Thanksgiving?" and "When is Thanksgiving in Canada?", but she would give me different answers.

Siri is so useless. They need a complete from scratch redesign of Siri, whatever approach they've been going with is just not working. Her biggest problem is her lack of insight. Apple do not seem to be giving Siri the information it needs to give relevant answers to common and obscure questions like Google and to a lesser extent Amazon are with their assistants.

99.9% of my interactions with Siri are to set local reminders and timers because she can easily understand the phrases "Remind me" and "Set timer". These are very basic commands. Ask her anything where she has no frame of reference for the context of the question and she basically is as good as a 50/50 coin flip.

I honestly think the smart speaker with Siri is coming out way too soon. Siri needs to get a lot smarter before a product like this is worth paying money for and honestly I feel that Apple is being extremely arrogant to put this out at $349 expecting us to buy them, that's before I even get into the fact that it's not a Stereo speaker and Stereo mode won't be available unless you buy two of them for a combined total of $698 and even then the software to make Stereo mode work isn't out yet with no date as to when it will be.

Just ridiculous.

Apple should have done more with their purchase, seven years is a long time, Siri should be the best, Alexa isn't half as old and Google Assistant is younger still.
Bixby does more than Siri....

whats hard to understand is how come Alexa which is basically a retailer comppany product is better than Apple which is mainly a computer company

After you’ve used Google Assistant or Alexa, using Siri is like being stuck on a desert island with someone with Alzheimer’s.

"this is not true I did not hit her, I did not. Oh hey Mark." Siri is dumb as F. Even integration with Homekit doesn't work. You have to repeat several times to switch off or on the lights. I do not have Alexa so I can not compare, but claiming actively using Siri, I do not believe that, because it doesn't work."
