Siri No Longer Able to Rate Apple Music Songs on Request in iOS 15 and Later

I’ve also noticed that Siri no longer understands “Set my [office] light to Adaptive Lighting” - she’ll say “Sorry, I couldn’t find anything like that in your office in you home” and it’s annoying as heck! It used to work all the time… I can set my lights to any color except adaptive lighting now!

Star ratings in Music, (iTunes) are really the only thing tieing me to Apple’s Music player at all. Devolving to a Love/Hate binary sorting system will push me out of Music.

I suppose that would then unbind me from macOS, iOS, TVOS, iCloud and in essence the entire Apple ecosystem…

Maybe it is time, nothing just works anymore anyway.

Anyone else who thinks Siri is slow in performing commands? It takes at least 5 seconds to perform a command, if they get performed at all from an Apple Watch. Just controlling stuff like Hue bulbs.

Star-ratings have lost their purpose. People tend to not be able to put anything in perspective anymore so you mostly end up with users rating this either 1 star or 5 stars. There is rarely any middle-ground.
I don't use all, but I use some.... 5 stars are the best of the best. 4 stars really good. 1 star sucks. Unrated - not listened to, or didn't care enough one way or the other.

I made the mistake of updating one of my iPhones to 15. I noticed that on iOS 15, longer song titles no longer displayed on a second line when needed and were now being truncated on CarPlay in my car. There are so many bad changes on iOS 15. This change carried over to other apps as well such as stitcher.

I'm keeping the other XS Max on 14.8.1 and not losing the features I like in CarPlay.

I fully expect star ratings to go away when Apple releases a re-written Apple Music app and sheds the legacy code of iTunes. If you're not already on board with likes and dislikes, get on board.

Hmm. I don't know if this is related, but I used to be able to love/unlike a song that was playing on my iPhone, using the little menu on the Apple Watch Now Playing screen. Now I can't and I'm not sure why. Very irritating.

Yes you are right, there is a bigger problem with shortcuts and homepods (HomeKit). I have called apple support about it and they confirmed that shortcuts are not working anymore after the update. This only goes for homepods, if you run the same shortcut on an iPhone or on the watch...they are still working.

Similar, with the only difference being that I don’t share my library with anyone so it’s only songs that I like (no sucky ones), so it’s just “good enough that I want to hear it anytime” and “that list PLUS ones that are good and I like to hear, just not as often”. The main thing the star rating provided was I could create a playlist of “4 and better” or “5 only”.

And, as mentioned, you could apply ratings while a song is playing instead of waiting to get back to update the metadata on a song.

I don’t use Siri.
I use the finger print sensor. If you press too long, Siri is activated.
I also use do not disturb, so Siri isn’t allowed to speak.
On the other hand, Alexa is not active.
Nor is Cortana or Hey Google.

Siri on the Homepod mini also no longer lets you add entries to Reminders. The only answer is that you should install an app for it. That definitely used to work. Siri via the iPhone or the Watch work as usual...
Siri and HomeKit are broken in iOS 15 my house still doesn’t work they way it did under iOS 14.

It's easy to interpret "Sorry, I can't do that" as Siri understanding what you said. It's possible the parser has been broken.

The increasingly attempt to make sure people “like” the “correct” songs?

I really dislike the idea of only thumbs up or down. There are a range of likes (from not minding having the same song on repeat to okay to listen occasionally). This range is not possible on a binary thumbs up/down system. This is just a poor attempt in training algorithm.

I use all the stars, and half-stars. I collect and curate all my music, and it’s auto-sorted into smart lists based on these granular attributions. (I don’t stream music, or care what my friends are listening to.) Stars are super-useful! Granted: I never knew Siri could assign stars on request, since I’m standing at my computer if I’m listening to music.

Assuming this isn’t just a passing glitch, the day stars truly go away is the day I go back to using third party apps to manage my collection. So 1990s!

Apple just can’t leave us star rating folks alone can they? Why even bother touching this feature at all? Their server needs to upgrade and instead of upgrading they cut features to save cost or something? What’s next? Delete features people rarely use but still handy in the name of “cleaning up code”? Apple for record, NEVER openly announce feature removal afaik. Bad.
I don’t see any star rating anywhere in the player in iOS 14.8.1. Where should it be located. I have Apple Music subscription.
You wont see star rating if you have Apple Music subscription. It’s exclusive for local library (again, no, not “download offline”. That doesn’t count).
I didn't know we could rate songs with a 5 stars system anymore. I did it 15 years ago though.
But I thought it was just like/dislike since Apple Music ?
Yes, it is just “like dislike” for Apple Music subscription, but inside Apple Music app, after backlash, apple adds star rating back inside Apple Music app for us local music library folks (no, not the same as “download offline”).

Fully expect star rating to go away but doesn’t expect people to NOT subscribe to Apple Music?

I’d rather argue that’s because they strongly believe customers are a bunch of d$($)&)b&(#)&) that doesn’t understand @“&)&” and they are always right. Such customer-hostile mindset, idk, will last for how long, I have no idea.

Instead of removing functions, when is Apple going to just fix Siri, so it works. It's pointless they go on about the security aspect as they got caught with that team in Ireland listening to recordings. And even then Siri was still poor.
It's really embarrassing how behind Siri is now. I use Alexa, only time I use Siri is to name a song, but I'm even moving to Shazam for that these days.
If Apple is serious about smart homes it really needs to massively improve Siri, here's something I found in the web isn't good enough in 2022.

Apple has many great products, yet Siri has always been useless. Maybe it's time for Apple to cut their losses and ditch.
