I notice that when activating Siri on my iPhone, it doesn't beep anymore.....however it still does on the iPad. Assuming this is normal?

I asked Siri about this, here is her reply:
My phone does vibrate slightly instead of beeping when activating Siri...
It's by design. It's less obtrusive to people around you in public. There is no need for an audio cue if the phone is in your hand and you can feel the two quick taps (vibration.)
You will still get the audio cue if you are on Bluetooth speakers (like in a car) and or use "Hey Siri" and also with headphones (since surrounding people will not hear it.)
The reason iPads will beep still in all situations is because it doesn't have vibration.

I have vibration turned off in settings (I hate vibrating phones) and it doesn't vibrate when activating Siri. There is no cue that it's ready to listen. Annoying but I'll get used to it
I guess one way of looking at it is that in that case they might re-enable the sound perhaps.
It's not broken, you just don't like it.
I'm sure if you JB your iPhone you can get the beep back so you know when to talk... rather then looking at your iPhone and seeing the visual display at the bottom when your voice is being picked up...
But when you then speak into it and Siri replies back, that's not obtrusive? It may be by design (her answer in the pic above shows this!), but that reasoning doesn't really hold up for me.
I feel if you want to be less obtrusive in public you could put your phone on mute. They added a setting so Siri's voice feedback can respect the mute button; I wish the beep could be controlled in the same way.
With 'Hey Siri' still making it beep, I am struggling to conceive of how this could be a coherent and consistent design choice. And no, it doesn't just beep when it's plugged in and on the other side of the room, but also when you say 'Hey Siri' when it's on the Siri screen, in your hands, not plugged in, potentially in public.
But hey, it's not the end of the world, I'm sure I'll get used to it

Just found this out this morning. Kinda frustration because I found out by hitting her by accident and didn't even know the phone went into Siri mood. Kinda missed the beep
I think the beep is better. That way people around you know that you are about to talk to your phone. Now there will be plenty of "are you talking to me?" moments.
Well, it might be a mistake in some people's eyes, but that doesn't mean that it is one or at least it is one in Apple's eyes.
If they put a small button in settings, everyone will be happy. And they could say that they are doing something like this, it is realy confusing.
