This is relation to the SIRI feature of announcing notifications (AirPods/Carplay/etc). I have SIRI set to English language. I also have SIRI set to announce messages when using Headphones. I mainly receive messages in English (iMessage/whatsapp/etc), up to now, if I received a message in Spanish SIRI would say something like "contact sent a message in a language I can't read", but I noticed yesterday that SIRI can autodetect that the message is in Spanish and auto switch the language and read the message. This is pretty dam cool.

Anyone else experience this? I could not find a particular setting for it. Also it does not matter in what language you have your keyboard set to.

It was introduced in 17.X (don’t remember)

You can add additional languages in the Siri settings. Should be called something like „answer messages with Siri“ and then „read messages“ in english

Yeah, it's cool if your language happens to be among those very few that Siri knows. Otherwise it's worse than it was before.
Because Siri can't read in Romanian, it used to try and read Romanian messages as if they had been written in English. Of course they sounded funny and barely intelligible, but at least I could understand, broadly, what the message was about. Now, however, it just says, "Eva sent a message in Romanian. Would you like to reply?" - which is absolutely useless.
Do they perhaps think I will be overly impressed that the language was recognized automatically? "Oh, wooooooow, it detected that my daughter wrote in Romanian, how cool is that?" No, I'm definitely not impressed. I would rather they didn't detect it and just read it regardless. It was a lousy compromise, but still better than nothing. Now I'm left with nothing.

Yeah that`s cool. My Phone is in German. Mostly because I work in IT Support and sometimes I need screenshots or Setting Names to check up. Most of my messages I get in English. I was terrible before that. Now I get announced messages in both languages.

for me this only works in iMessage. wish it would so in Signal too.

Interesting! This is working with third party apps as well?
I currently have my iPhone set to English and Siri to Spanish so it correctly announces my received WhatsApp messages.

Would love to set Siri to English as well.
But I was sure (by the wording used by Apple) that it would be a iMessage feature only.
