Hi guys.

If you set a reminder using Siri, on your iPhone for example..
Will Siri on the Homepod always read out the reminder out loud when the time comes?

Example exaggerated for effect:
On my iPhone, "Siri remind me to buy condoms tonight."

Homepod speaking outloud to my room at some point tonight "buy condoms".

Is this how it will work with Homepod?
Could be pretty intrusive, and surely creates some problems regarding privacy.

What if I'm not even home and Homepod is reading out private stuff to my house mate?
Just curious about the whole process..

*Please move thread if not in appropriate section. Couldnt find a Homepod section.

I didn't know Siri would verbally read out reminders unless you asked her to.

I'm pretty sure asking HomePod to set a reminder will just set it on your iCloud account, and will send you a ping to your phone or start glowing on the top light (like Amazon Echo does) and not actually verbally tell you without any kind of prompt.

I suppose it “could” be possible.

Craig Federighi after WWDC talked about how Siri works with multiple devices (especially with the introduction of HomePod) during and interview.

Each device when “hey Siri” is heard will talk to each other, take a vote on the best guess of which device you intended to ask. Using things like recently used or in use device, distance it heard the command from and so on. He went into more detail, but that’s the gist of it.

Now, I’m guessing it would also use that same kind of voting and such to relay what device a reminder is to be sent out to (IE HomePod or your iOS devices)

Thats awesome, didnt know that!

When it comes to reminding you of things though, how would it know which device to engage?
Cant sense your presence yet can it? :p

Hard to say how it will know. For example if someone has an Apple Watch, most likely thats where the notification is sent to first Especially since when it’s unlocked (IE being worn) it knows that is the closest device to you. If your iPhone (or iPad) screen is on then it’s passed to the phone first, because it knows your screen is on and likely you’re looking at it.

It gets tricky when you add in HomePod and non of the other examples are happening (watch being worn or iPhone/iPad screen on)

Will HomePod light up on top like chrf097 suggested? Or will it just blindly go to all iOS devices to be read and cleared from whichever device you end up picking up first?

Or will it use the same “hey Siri” query voting I talked about and say if the HomePod was the most recent device used then ping with a reminders notification sound, signifying your reminder is ready and you could then ask to replay the reminder back to you?

Definitely something that needs testing once it’s released.
