We should be thanking Scott Forstall for the fact that this gentleman, Daniel Vallaire, had his precious life saved by Siri. Forstall was responsible for leading iOS development at the time he demonstrated and released Siri in 2011. Apple's acquisition and integration of Siri happened under Forstall's visionary leadership.

Tim Cook, being the clueless bean counting MBA degree holder that he is, fired Forstall two years later, in 2013.

Had Forstall never been fired, Siri would likely be far more advanced than it is today. Forstall was a visionary who valued innovation more than shareholders. Cook realized (correctly) that he can maximize profits for shareholders by cutting spending on innovation, and that's why plenty of Apple's software, like Siri, have been relatively stagnant since Forstall was fired.

Hi, I've seen at least 2 posts form you here... Scott, is this you? If this you, huge fan of your work. They should not let you go.

In other countries, we are often surprised by such sarcastic and harsh comments to be seen above. Is this the new America, or are these just young people who feel liberated when writing rather unfunny remarks?
This is an international forum with a userbase in the tens of thousands. The snark is also international. I’m assuming you do not know the age or the home country of most of the commenters on this thread, so the assumptions in your question are probably a bit premature.

I tried to trigger fall detection one time by dropping dead to the ground, nothing happened. This was a couple of years ago. Recently I did something and it had a false trigger. I fall detection functions as intended when someone truly needs it.
The only time I’ve managed to trigger fall detection falsely was when I was knocking a wall down with a sledgehammer, must take a serious impact to trigger it.

I'm really extremely glad that this man survived what sounds like a horrible ordeal. I truly wish him the best for his recovery.

But I genuinely wonder why this is being picked up as news here? Granted it involves Siri, but fundamentally the story here is 'man survives health emergency by calling for help on an iPhone.' It's one step up from reporting that people dial 911.
I was curious why he didn’t ask Siri to call 911 directly

I was mowing the lawn last week with headphones in and ran over a rock. I furiously tried to turn my music down by pushing the buttons on my iPhone in my pocket, only to learn that I had infect activated the automatic call out to triple zero emergency services. Clearly pushed the wrong button. Nothing to see here, carry on.

Sad, but true. Concepts such as personal responsibility, integrity, and others are almost non existent anymore. Just look at this thread. Full of Siri hatred. Every post was predictable after reading the title of the article. Can anyone tell me what the point is of most of these posts? By now, the entire world knows about Siri hate from here.

The word "schadenfreude" perfectly states the new "normal".
Anonymous broken keyboard warriors the new "normal"

I wear mine about 23 hours a day. Mostly for fall detection. I've fallen a few times (I was OK) and stopped it from calling 911. Excellent feature. Glad to hear the guy was OK. Siri is a wonder sometimes.
I've had several false detections from things like using a hammer etc. After selecting I didn't fall for those alerts, I did fall tripping over my zoomie dog and nothing...

I've had a couple of minor falls where it didn't go off. Even if I fall, if I'm conscious, I can make a call if I can't get up. The cell capability and the link to the iPhone make that a good backup. But no system is perfect.

Wow. Amazing. Amazing because Siri never works from me on my Apple Watch. Spins and spins. And, when I'm not asking Siri something, it responds. Normally when I really don't want to share info with Siri. It's like it's purposely messing me and laughing at me.

Must have bad dialects, I am a non native speaker, Siri works here.
