I feel like this has to be set in every comment section about the delay, but…
The personal context features were never, ever advertised or were never going to make Siri’s question answering abilities any better.
Even if they shipped on time.
They were less a “Siri2.0” and more a dramatically better Spotlight blended with shortcuts that just happened to have a major Siri component.

A Siri 2.0 is desperately needed, but again that was never what was even being promised in the first place.

I’d really love to get away from all my Echo devices when the new Apple device comes out. That being said, I have 0 confidence that Siri even kind of sort of approaches Alexa’s quality
Personally, I’ve found them about the same, both extremely frustrating and only work properly if you use the exact right words in the exact right order.
Alexa couldn’t tell me how many weeks between two dates, and it only turns off my lamp if I specifically say “Alexa, turn off all lights”.

I have a HomePod, and AppleTV, MacBook, iPhone and an Apple Watch. If I have music playing on my iPhone as an example and call out to ask Siri to stop playing music, my HomePod tells me that no music is playing, while it continues to play on my phone. When I ask Siri to start a timer, it goes off on multiple devices. If I ask Siri to log my weight, my HomePod tells me it can't perform that task. Siri is a joke and only gets worse when you have multiple devices. It needs to understand what kind of command is being asked and be smarter to perform said task.

The problem is it has gotten worse. In the US recently I asked it for directions to the nearest post office. It replied “do you want me to use ChatGPT for that” I replied no. It said okay and that was it. I then said Siri use Apple Maps to find the location of the nearest post office. It then replied it couldn’t answer that question. I had to stop and type in post office in Apple Maps. Just like my experience with music. Siri used to work with music by saying Siri play Taylor Swift. Just worked. Now, it has to be more like this for it to work, Siri, use Apple Music to play music by Taylor Swift. If I don’t get any of those elements, it will say what do you want me to do with Apple Music or let’s say I don’t say Apple Music, like I used to just say play Taylor Swift, now it will say what app do you want me to use or something similar. I don’t have Spotify on my phone. WTF????

It has gotten so bad it’s almost unusable. Tim and the whole team need fired. Tim doesn’t understand how bad it has gotten but people will eventually say this ecosystem isn’t worth two cents and give up on Apple for reliability in anyway.

I don't get it.

How is it that a $3T company that makes the most wholesome user friendly software is unable to match AI features made by startups like Mistral AI founded in 2023?

hard to believe when Apple first released siri in 2011 it felt like something from the Jetsons and 13 years later everyone surpassed it. Thank god they didn't create the self driving car!

I thought its probably a one of case and tried it myself. Its the same response each and every time!
It responds to "what day is it" "what year is it" "what time is it" and so on, but simply doesn't understand "what month is it". Thats interesting!

Edit: When I changed the question a bit, it wanted to use ChatGPT.

I was using Smart Life to control a few smart plugs around the house. Three had names of HW 10, HW 30 and HW 60 for the automations they performed. They all used to work fine with Siri until last year sometime when out of nowhere Siri couldn't find them anymore. So it is getting worse.

Now I'm switching over to Home Assistant and using the Homekit integration so I can use Apple Home. Tonight was playing around making an automation in Shortcuts. So decided to try one with Siri. It found and started the automation shortcut fine but halfway through Siri said something went wrong and to try again even though the shortcut was running as programmed. Sucks because it could be so useful.
Yeah. I ended up buying new Matter capable bulbs and it improved tremendously. It’s like Siri is just stupid now. Whatever they have done has made things unusable. But my scenes are all messed up and don’t work in Apple even with the Matter. I have to individually turn on different lights now. I can link the ceiling lights all together but can’t individually control them. It’s really sad what not having someone who understands technology run a tech company to make the shareholders happy. In the long run, the value of AAPL will decline as it’s a terribly run company with several bright spots. But the leadership is just awful. Money over everything just make shareholders happy is good for the now but creates bad will with the customers and all the other stakeholders. I would say if Tim doesn’t come out and apologize, then fire the teams and leads of Siri, then the board should put Tim under pressure to resign.

The fall of Apple from their tree is coming … Expensive product behind competition at much cheaper price, AI dumb or chilidsh or simply not implemented yet, products cancelled because they can’t get it right … I can’t believe it … what is Apple board doing to change things around before it’s too late …

I think they should move away from Siri branding, it’s already too stained and even if it’s fixed eventually most people won’t even give it a try.

If they fix they should rebrand it to Apple Assistant or something like that.
Doesn’t matter if they don’t fix the problem. Steve fixed the MobileMe then changed the name of it to iCloud. People couldn’t rely on MobileMe. Just like Siri is a joke and unusable. They need to fix the problem then change the name.

can we get an option to add grok? thank you

Unless the EU forces Apple to allow other virtual assistants, it will not happen. It’s just like Apple isn’t going to unlock the tap to pay function for other apps without a fight.

I wouldn’t hold your breath for the EU because it took them a decade to push Apple into USB-C. Perhaps by 2035, we’ll have Grok on the iPhone 😂

Incredibly embarrassing. Siri is so bad. Just give us an option in settings to have ChatGPT be the default to answer all questions (without us having to preface the question with ChatGPT). Leave Siri to setting timers and alarms.

At the risk of sounding like I am defending Apple, what do you expect? Apple hasn't updated Siri for Apple Intelligence. Yes, Apple Intelligence has local Siri LLM for faster processing, but that doesn't mean it's smarter.

No wonder, 30% tamagotchi based, 30% Cortana based, 30% Alexa based 9.999999999......... The Live of Pi. :)
