Literally, okay? Dozens of Siri devices around me at all times, yes, it occasionally has goofs like this but 90% of the time everything is fine, response to turning on every light perfectly, the weather, timers, etc. Could it be better? Sure. And I’m sure it will be. It certainly hasn’t regressed as people love to say.
90% success rate with questions like ‘what’s the weather like’ or ‘switch off the lights in the kitchen’ is NOT good. Getting these wrong one time out of ten is quite poor. How would you feel if the iPhone opened Mail 10% of the time you click on the safari icon?

I agree. As long as you’re asking it things it can do, like play a certain album, it works fine. Though, I can’t quite understand why it can’t tell you what month it is. I’m pretty sure if you ask it the date, it says that just fine.

If you think Siri is dumb just ask Alexa… anything! You’ll quickly see that it isn’t an apple only issue. I wanted to take a nap so I asked Alexa to set an alarm for 6 PM and she asked me is that 6 PM tomorrow? No you stupid piece of crap, 6 PM today! Also when I ask to clear my notifications she sometimes says “I didn’t get that” or “Hum, I’m not sure.”
At least Alexa tells you when it doesn’t understand, instead of either doing nothing or playing a random song.

It’s so bad. Ask it:

“How many days until 1st April 2026”

The answer it gives is 13 days.

That’s the time until 1st April 2025.

Basic stuff like listening to and processing the request fully is broken. How this kind of broken behaviour has persisted for so many years is unbelievable.

There will be a round table Siri meeting soon.

They didn’t do enough after the last fire and it’s still burning. Tim Cook HATES any public criticism and isn’t like Jobs who would at least face things head on.

But this is what they need to do. Like Antenna-gate the Mac Pro round table (which was under cook).

Agree. I think the problem is expectation vs reality.

We all envision Siri to be a smart digital assistant, but the reality is that all it's (currently) good for is for simple prompts like timers, weather, home automation, etc which would be fine if it wasn't for our expectations.

I deactivated it on all devices and packed away my HomePod, Siri has become absolutely unusable over the last year for me.

Since Siri was launched, I've always kept it switched off. In early updates, and even now, it's a pain every time Apple provide an update, as you are required to enable Siri in the restart after an iOS update, before going to Setup to switch it off. But it's worth that pain ... not to be interrupted by Siri!

It's been a disaster since Day 1.

Yesterday I asked Siri to open the Salter scales app. My HomePod siri kept responding saying there were no TVs online to do it on. Three times later…. My iPhone was between me and the HomePod - no sort of smart algorithm or method of re-trying a query on an alternative, nearby device? I don’t think it would push the limits of current AI for Siri to have an awareness of all my nearby devices with a basic list of apps etc.

This is an issue they should have solved in 2018 with HomePod 1

It hasn’t regressed?
Things that have regressed with Siri over the years:

1. Wolfram Αlpha integration removed

2. Can no longer ask Siri question about photos like “Show me photos from last summer with Amy”
Now it just shows you Bing results

3. Can no longer ask questions to Mac Siri about apps on your computer
“Show me the files I worked on last week about the offsite”

So are you seriously going to sit there and try to say Siri isn’t a piece of sh** and Siri hasn’t regressed?

Don’t get me wrong, Siri has certainly changed for the worse for me too. Incidentally I got my very first HomePod this month, and I got it as it’s just a greatly reviewed single speaker solution. Didn’t buy it for the smart stuff, and no regrets there. Surprisingly, my experience with Siri on the HP is vastly superior compared to Google Assistant on a HK Citation speaker and Alexa on an Echo, but they were on different points of times so take my experience as anecdotal evidence (by vastly superior I don’t mean the knowledge accuracy but rather just the reliability of it to play music, especially pronouncing non English song titles)

I can’t even navigate to my contacts anymore. She refuses to give driving directions. No idea why this basic feature stopped working. She simply replace with a question what I want to know about my contact.

It’s so weird and random.
