Anytime I I use Siri to attempt to start a workout, I get messages such as "uh oh, there's a problem. Please try again", or "I'm having a bit of trouble here".

I've unpaired and repaired to my phone.

Siri works just fine on the watch for all other functions.

Any ideas?

Series 6 watch running watchOS9.2, connected to iPhone 14 Pro running iOS 16.2.

Could you check this shortcut?

It’s just running an “Run outside” activity. Can be started by Siri command: “Run Tester”

I use different one (both on AW and iPhone which is nice) where I manually choose from menu which sport to start but one above might help debug problems.

Siri is embarrassing at times. Apple could make Siri so much more but they don’t. How hard would be to get it to do something so simple as this. Afraid Google has Apple beat in this category.

Just downloaded the new WatchOS out today and no fix. I did create shortcuts that will make it work.
  1. Create shortcut in shortcut app
  2. Choose workout
  3. Choose what you want to do
  4. I named mine "Start outdoor cycle" so that the name would reflect what I want Siri to do. I don't know if that's needed.

I just did this and tested it. No idea on longevity of the solution.

I started experiencing this a couple weeks ago intermittently and in the last few days it happens all the time. I’ve also updated to the latest WatchOS and no fix. It’s like Siri on Apple Watch just can’t communicate natively with the workouts app anymore. I also went the shortcut route and made shortcuts for all of my most frequently used workouts and that works fine for now, in fact in some ways it’s better because I can now start them from any device (like my AirPods, which used to be able to start a workout when connected to my phone up until iOS 15 came out. WHY?!). Still annoying that I can’t use Siri to end a workout, but otherwise I’m happy with this workaround for the time being. Kinda crazy to me that more people don’t complain about these Siri issues and Apple just never puts out a fix.
