I am not sure why some people hang on to Sirius XM, but I left them years ago for their crappy practices and poor sound quality, and ever since Apple Music, I couldn’t imagine going back for any reason whatsoever.
A few reasons:
- variety
- don’t have to create playlists
- acts more like a radio than AM
- works from virtually everywhere

So yeah, we like it. YMMV.

Furthermore - in the car, their audio cuts out way too frequently. Driving next to a mountain? Cuts out. Go under an overpass? Cut out. Maybe satellite isn't the right technology for a service which needs constant connectivity, or maybe your tech should be improved so that it maintains a small buffer to pull from when cut-outs do occur.

Just canceled my Sirius radio last week, I cant justify something that cost as much as 2-3 video streaming services combined. The service should be $6.99 at most. The mid-tier plan which lacks a lot of the channels is $17.99.. I get that they have good content but so does Netflix.
Just call them. They will drop it to nearly any price you suggest. You just have to do it once a year.

I just can't believe that people put up with the crappy quality of satellite radio and still pay for it.

I never paid for it, I had it free for 1 year with the car purchase a number of years ago, and occasionally will catch the free preview twice a year. I still think it sounds horrible, traditional FM radio sounds way better.

Their compression is high & bitrate is really low.

I’m not a huge fan of SXM, but it occasionally works well for music discovery.

Pro tip: Use the iPhone app to stream at “Maximum” to actually get an acceptable sound quality.

Mediocre product that plays the same songs on repeat, some unbearable DJs who talk too much (cough Madison), and a crappy customer experience such that I have to call and threaten to cancel every six months for literally the last decade to get their best price.
I don't get it. Why do you pay for something if it's mediocre and has crappy customer service?

a promotion that applies to both new and existing subscribers.
That's pretty awesome. So many of the promotions are for new members only.

That's a good deal, but I don't know how it would work if you already have Apple Music as part of your Apple One subscription.
Good question.

I don't listen to SiriusXM, especially not at $35/month, but interesting promo

On the other hand when I traveled through the desert with no am, fm or cell services radio did receive Sirius xm.

On the marketing side, very aggressive. Almost impossible to get No through to them. Doing business is a package deal. The most important part, the ethics of the company. SiriusXM not someone I would do business with.

Seems expensive. You can generally get Sirius for $5/month per vehicle if you call and say you want to cancel.

I have a yearly reminder set on my phone to call the day before my plan is scheduled to renew to say I want to cancel and they always offer me a promotion to retain me.

Currently, I paid $87 for the entire year (so $7.25/month). $34.99 seems way too expensive TBH.

This is like the Cheesecake Factory offering you a complimentary Arby's roast beef sandwich.
I’m not sure which this is slighting, maybe both. Cheesecake Factory is just a tourist picture menu ”factory,“ and Arby’s is an old timey roast beef place, if it still exists?

I'm confused what Sirius is trying to do here. They have Pandora supported and now they're giving away Apple Music as well.
Same here. February will mark three years since the Pandora acquisition was completed. What have they done with it aside from adding the Pandora Now channel and the Chapter and Verse series with Audible? I don't see how Pandora is helping SXM attract, retain or upsell subs.

Their streaming app is better than Apple Music bar none!!! Their satellite radio not so much! It’s not going anywhere

I use to have XM radio at $10/month before Sirius destroyed a wonderful service.
I cancelled XM when the price increased to $13/month. I only listened to a few channels and could no longer afford the luxury.
Anyone who had the real XM service has complained already as Sirius fired all the excellent on-air talent. Now the DJs “voice track “ their shows, at least they did. I don’t know what is current with the music channels.
Other radio stations “voice track” as it saves money.
They record an entire voice track at once, meaning they are not doing live radio.
I will listen to FM music that way, but will not pay for it.

We're at $18 a month for two cars. I forget what tier we're in, but I think it's the music and entertainment one. No need for sports and Howard stern.

Let’s talk about audio quality. You can get full lossless on  Music but in Sirius they compress the **** out of the signal to squeeze more channels out of the satellite. Then you pay to listen to ads and other junk filler. Radio is dead.

XM radio is the worst. It has terrible audio quality, has the same coverage as FM radio, and is expensive.

But I do understand that Spotify or Apple Music isn't a replacement.

People can't possibly listen to music on XM because it sounds so bad and is literally just a playlist on repeat, they must be listening to talk radio or something, and those personalities are exclusive and don't have a streaming alternative except using the XM app.

XM truly needs to figure out how to make money, though, at this rate, they've just giving away their service, charging the suckers and one day those satellites and terrestrial antennas will crumble because they literally can't afford to pay a tech to repair them and they'll lose all their customers.

I remember XM coming out and thought it was a great idea, so I really wish they'd come up with a better business model.

Ever try downloading an  Music playlist?

I have Sirius xm for convenience. I know the audio quality isn’t as good as Apple Music but with all of the genres plus cable stations to me it’s a great package worth the expense and “lack of quality”. I don’t know what you are referring to as ads. Promos for other channels which are infrequent at best?

I’ve paid for a satellite subscription for 10 years so I like the service.

At some point -- probably when 5G is as close to ubiquitous as cellular can get in terms of both coverage and embedding in vehicle infotainment systems -- SXM will transition to an over-the-top model, like DirecTV. The satellites and terrestrial repeaters would stick around as fallback until they reach EOL.

My scenario as well. I travel through vast stretches of emptiness every now and then, so satellite radio is something I'll still get, while internet may be spotty. Another bonus is Sirius XM won't use up my phone's data plan. Yes, I do have audio CDs, and I could always dust off the iPod Classic and load music onto there, but convenience has been a factor for me as well.

TBF, I'll have to see what Apple Music actually offers. When I'm driving and have internet, I've been fine just loading up songs through YouTube. Also need to see if I'm eligible. I should be since I have the the 3rd tier that includes every channel (lowest tier isn't that useful to me since I also like having comedy channels), but dunno if that's also called "platinum", or it's some other new thing.

I struggle to find a use case for Sirius. Apple Music (or Spotify) has all the music and you can listen to that anywhere, stream to your stereo or smart speaker, headphones while running, via bluetooth in any car you are in etc. with a single subscription. Every talker has a pod cast. Terrestrial radio has local and most of those are on iHeart Radio or similar. I can't find anything Sirius offers that is unique. Perhaps more live sports, but radio broadcasts of sports has zero interest or use for me.
When you travel, like I do, then having Sirius is a huge benefit. Streaming will not work well in remote areas and there is still a lot of them and with Sirius I can have the same station anywhere I go. A no brainer for me.
