So let's get this right. You have a Mac, and she'll have Windows. Sounds like the perfect way to ensure that everything will work somewhere.

Shame about the Dell though. Couldn't they have gone for a Compaq?

I tried to tell them to get a Compaq, but they've always bought Dells, so they got her one. They say Dell's are reliable (4 repairs and $600 later...)

Oh dear. It sounds as if your parents are forever lost to us :p

Maybe your sister will like the Dell just fine? Has she used a Mac before? Has she herself complained about Windows? I agree that Mac is much better than Windows/Dell/etc, but some people might just have to find out on their own no?

You're probably right. She isn't Anti-Mac, but she isn't Pro-Mac either. She seems content with Windows, so I guess I'll just leave her be.

How about making sure she pays lots of money EVERY time she has to clean up viruses and spyware? Once she realizes how much money she spends that you don't spend, she might get the idea. :p

I Like the Dells at least the desktop line. I have a E521 now with 2 gigs ram & 7600GS does great for gaming and Tv and is near silent. Gigabyte fanless 7600GS.

Buy a Dell?

My daughter's G3 iBook is getting long in the tooth and she has been griping about it to my Dad. He called me and said we should get her a new one, had been online and looking at Dells and they were pretty reasonably priced ( his main criteria for a computer!) I thanked him for his trouble and told him I had ordered two new ones on "black Friday" from Apple. My daughter will never know how close she came to owning a Dell! She would be appalled. She can't imagine why anyone would have a windows machine. I was very proud of her when she explained to her friend's parents all the pros and cons of Macs, she even used the bundled software to account for the price difference. They bought a MacBook Pro. It is users like the members of this forum and my daughter that are Apple's greatest asset!

And I just am happy to have the new Pismo up and running...
