It's honestly one of those things that I didn't know that I needed until I started using it. I didn't care when it was announced and now I love it.
I actually wonder how many less phone drops there are the result of this feature. I know it wasn’t heavily advertised when the phone came out, but I think it’s actually one of the best new features out there on a smart phone.

Agree even the scratch protection w/o a screen protector is excellent. Its been amazing knock on wood. My air has been dropped on my garage floor caseless and its still new.

I’m coming up on a year with my iPhone 16 Pro Max. Great phone. The 17 Pro, especially with the selfie camera, seems good, but is it worth an upgrade over a perfectly good 16 Pro Max? My battery health is at 94%, so still pretty good. I would probably get silver if I upgraded, but I think my natural phone looks much better than any of the 17 options available.
It never is. Wait another year or two. These things aren’t special anymore. They’re great devices however, that deserve to be used for more than one year.

How many cycle counts have you got may I ask? I only ask as my 16 Pro Max is a launch day model and I haven't dropped a single percent yet with 312 cycles. Interested thats all, not that it really matters as 94% is still great.

I am at 312 as well. Battery still is pretty good with this phone. I do run into charging issues if I am negligent with overnight charging sometimes. I use my phone a lot (increasingly for work in landscape mode)

I have a 16 Pro and since it gets normal use and still at 300 plus charge cycles and 100% battery health I fully intend to go at least a couple more years as I really like this design over the 17 Pro but that is actually all on my preference and not anybody else’s. Since my phone was bought as a cash and carry out I fully intend to keep as it is a incremental year to year difference and the one in hand and paid off is better then the new and making payments.

If you;re not keeping your phone for at least 3 years then frankly you;re doing it wrong. There is a reason Apple only lets you compare the 17e on the website to the 11 or 12. When it brings out a new model it is speaking to people who bought a phone just after lockdown, not us.

In this same conundrum currently, primarily due to the 128GB of my 16 Pro suddenly getting quite tight with only 30GB free (and I use iCloud heavily).

On the fence between getting a 17 Pro, or trying to ride it out to the 18 Pro.

It's just half a year until the 18 Pros. I reckon you can make do with 128GB until then.

Besides, 30GB free isn't that small. At the very least, you're still able install firmware updates without needing to delete a bunch of stuff.

It’s actually the upgrade to 26.4 RC that made me think of changing… iOS offloaded a bunch of apps during the upgrade, which I have had to re-download in most inconvenient moments. But yeah, the more I look I into it the more sensible it seems to wait for the 18.

Absolutely. Better cameras, longer battery life and significantly more storage (2TB) - I travel a lot and take many pics and videos on the go.

2. Much better selfie camera. The ability to take normal landscape pictures while holding the phone vertically is very helpful (I hate all movies in portrait mode and delete them immediately when sent to me and stills portrait mode should be used sparingly). Completely changed my use of the selfie camera.
I've always taken photos and videos in landscape mode feeling that was the better option for numerous reasons. But over the last year or maybe longer, seems to be a switch happening where more are using portrait mode and I can't figure it out. I assume it's because almost all of the social media platforms cater to portrait mode (stories, reels, Snapchat, etc). I still prefer landscape mode personally.

Short answer: Nope!

I did 3 weeks ago.

Picked up 2 x 17 pro max new for only $100AUD more than 1 is worth.
Upgraded Mrs 15 max and my 16 pro, with new cases/GSP was only $180AUD each after selling the old phones.

Couldn't turn that deal down.

I’ve decided I am going to upgrade this week. About a year after my 16 purchase. 16 Pro Max is a a great phone with the Spigen case, but I kind of want the newest. I can now trade on my phone to AT&T and get a 17 pro max with no additional money (besides sales tax on the purchase). Mainly doing it for the increased battery life, and not seeing a ton in the 18 rumors that make me want to wait.

Only question is silver vs cosmic orange. Cosmic orange with a brown case (FineWoven or bullstrap leather) looks like a good choice. Silver with vanilla silicon case or green FineWoven would be my other choice.

I love the look and feel of the 16 Pro but the overheating issues made the 17 Pro tempting. Ultimately I decided to wait as the cameras don't seem to be a big enough upgrade.

Not sure I want to open a new thread, but what about 14 pro.

17Pro Max now, or wait till 18Pro Max?

You're talking about a change in screen size and general battery life. That might be more of a draw than anything else. Between my 14 PM and my 17 PM, there isn't much of a difference (aside from the degraded battery in the 14). Using them back-to-back, I can't tell any general performance difference in normal tasks. And, my wi-fi and cellular performance actually seems to be worse with the 17. You'd think the RAM increase would be noticeable, but I still have apps and browser tabs constantly reloading.

Thanks, the two major draws for me for 17/18 pro max would be thermal regulation and larger keyboard.

The 8x zoom would be really nice too.

The minimal to no differences in the real world usage you experience makes it really difficult to justify $1200 :/ I get no trade-in deals with my carrier because my plan is so old, so I’m not sure what I’ll do. We’ll see come September.

Was it a carrier deal or with a specific retailer etc?
