So you say I can use my old macbook extension cords with this. Does that mean that the power block is essentially the same width as before? Just all the other dimensions are smaller?

So the world travel adapter kit would also be compatible? That's the thing with all the different plugs.

Yes, the iPad, MBR, and Air/MBP chargers are all the same depth and accept the same adapters/cables for the mains connection. Differences are the end going to the iPad/laptop, size (other than depth) and wattage.

Yes, and yes. The extension cord works with all of them, and the outlet plugs are all interchangeable.

For the size of the macbook and from reading these threads, this charger seems large to me. Not much R&D money went into it that is for sure.

How much smaller do you expect the charger to be? It's pretty damn small.

I am going to compare to iPad's charger later today when i find it. This is a pretty fat charger for a usb-c in my opinion. It is not really a big deal except the forums talk about how amazingly small it is .. compared to other MacBooks, yes.. but when compared to apple's tablets, no..

I think i am spoiled at how thin and amazingly great the size of the rMB is. They cannot really do much physically to make this any smaller without going to a smaller screen size and keyboard. I am very pleased with the design and performance for what it is.. but an iPad sized charger would have been perfect.

Since it is usb-c i will probably carry with me a battery pack with usb-c connector. it will be slightly bigger than this charger (and heavier) but is more practical for my needs.

That's because you haven't seen it in person. It's not large. It's larger than the iPad's, yes (mini), but much smaller than the MBA's.

For the price of the new MacBook's it would have been nice if Apple could have changes up the old "white" ac adapter's and gone with a more modern looking body colored power supply.

If anyone is interested in more size comparisons, I compared the size of the Macbook itself to the iPad Air 2, iPhone 6+, rMBP 15.4", and Samsung Note Pro 12.2 in my video, I also show the relative sizes of all 4 chargers for the Apple devices at the end. I linked the video in a post already in another thread, it is here: https://forums.macrumors.com/posts/21017251/

Remember that there's a lot more going on here than in the iPad charger. It's dual voltage (5.2v and 14.5v) and it's nearly triple the power output of the 10w adapter that is currently shipping with the Air 2 (or more than double the output of the 12w iPad adapter, if you want to compare it to that).

Yeah, I think scabello has wildly crazy expectations. There's really only so small they can make it.

Apple makes ridiculously tiny power adapters for their products compared to other companies. I have no complaints about the rMB charger. It's small and light just like the actual laptop is.
