What is width of the screen itself on the iPhone 12 mini? I understand the overall screen size is bigger than the 4.7 on my iPhone 8, but but since the body of the 12 mini is not as wide as that of the 8, I wonder about differences in width of the actual screen, which I consider much more important than height.

IP8: Width: 67.3 mm (2.65 in)
IP12M: Width: 64.3 mm (2.53 in)

Diff: 3mm (0.12 in)

EDIT: Whops thats the entire thing, not the scree, ignore

That's the actual phone size width, not the screen, right? I'm assuming the screen is different.

Maybe it's the kind of thing someone clever at math can figure out?

The old iPhone 8 has greater actual size width, or the reverse? There must be some way to quantify it.

They love to give diaginal dimensions because it confuses everyone and hides what most people want to know - the width. Also the diagonal dimension is even more misleading with the notched screen iPhones because the "ears" aren't really usable screen real estate but are counted in the dimension.

Someone did the math based on the resolution and pixel density and it came out that the width of the 5.4” screen was basically identical to the 4.7” screen, so it’s going to have the same keyboard size as the 6/6s/7/8 & 2020 SE.

When calculating based on pixel resolution and PPI, the mini 12 screen is 0.77 mm narrower than the 8, or 98.7 % of the width.

Usually when someone refers to a “Size Queen” —it’s a very different discussion.

I like to come up with interesting thread titles when I can.?

So anyways, it appears the new phone's screen will be ever so slightly narrower than the 8 (and the SE)? That's disappointing.

Hard to say that what looks like a difference of around under 1 mm would really be noticeable, let alone make some sort of a difference.

We did some visual comparisons here:

Thanks, cool.

An increased width would have been alluring to me. Not sure just some added height is enough to make me go for the mini over the SE or sticking with my 8 for awhile longer. The FaceTime ID instead of touch sounds like a step down to me, so I'm leery of it. (And that was before we had to wear masks.) Open to other opinions on that though.
