The impression that I get is that most people would be fine with the 42mm. Perhaps if you have very small wrists it might make a difference. These are my findings with size.

1. I may be a guy but I don't like ultra large watches - Rolex Submariner would be about the largest I would want to wear and that is tiny compared with a lot of both high end and 'fashion' watches that I see worn day to day.

2. There is not a huge amount of difference between 38 and 42mm. Just because the 42mm is the 'large' size does not mean that it is large compared with many watches.

3. Because it has a touch interface, it makes sense to use the largest screen that is comfortable.

4. Don't worry about the corners of the square screen. The bits that you feel on the wrist are the edges, so compare it with a circular watch that has the same width and height as the apple watch.

My guess is that the only people that would not like the 42mm size is those people, mostly women, who have only worn watches with tiny faces.

That's where I disagree. I'm 6'1", and I immediately preferred the 38mm Apple Watch. The face of my 38mm Watch is still larger than the dial of my Sub. The 42mm looks large, despite that fact that the body dimensions are still relatively conservative, because the black OLED panel overpowers the watch.

Here's a pic of the 42mm Apple Watch next to a Rolex President. The 42mm reads as noticeably larger. The 38mm model would read much closer in size to this Rolex.

Originally I was planning on getting a 42mm watch. After trying the on though, I went with the 38mm. It just looked better and felt more comfortable on my wrist. In regards to battery life, I put my watch on everyday when I leave for work at 6am, and then take it off at night between 10 and 11p with the watch showing anywhere between 30 and 40% power left. So we are talking roughly 17 hours and still have at least 30% power to go. Battery life is really a matter of perspective. If you sit there and play around constantly with it, you will experience a shorter life.

My advice is go to the store and try each size on and then make your decision.

Thanks for the post and the photo - I agree that the 42mm looks massive compared to the President. I will admit to not having directly compared my apple watch with my mechanical ones, and possibly it's just that I've become accustomed to my AW quickly. Or possibly because I work in healthcare, where I can't wear a watch on my wrist a great deal of the time, and while my two nicest watches have metal bands that don't fully separate, I can put my AW around a belt loop and at least look at the time by flicking it up. This is the first time in years that I have worn a watch at work at all.

Yeah, it certainly just depends on taste, and neither the 38 nor 42 are either too small or too large. Women, in particular, are often used to wearing large bangles and bracelets, so it just depends on what one wants. My wife probably wishes her 38mm was a little smaller, although that may be pushing it for a functional screen.

As a guy, my taste leans toward this size for a watch:

While other guys may prefer this:

hi I really want the Apple Watch but I don't know about it would be to big.. Because my wrist is not so big.. Please help

For me, I've got the 42mm which is perfect for my wrist AND my fingers. I can barely type on my wife's 38mm so you need to check which one you are more comfortable with.

Cheers !
