If nothing else, we can be glad Apple isn't spreading itself thin. Silver lining in everything, right?

...and I'll second that. One of my (among many) irks with The Giant From Redmond is that it has spread itself WAY too thin and tried to become everything for everybody, and not very good at any one of them. What does M$ try and make or weasel its way into: OS, Office suite, ISP, news service, game publisher, game console maker, other home and office software, etc., etc. It just is silly. Even if Office split away from M$, it would still probably be quite a lucrative business. Even Office v. X sold what...300,000 copies at least? At a minimum of $200 per copy (some more, some less), that would $60,000,000 in sales. I think most companies would be pretty happy with selling 300,000 copies of a product. Most computer games never hit that level, and they tend to go for $50.
But I hope that Apple does not follow the M$ or Sony trend to try and become everything for everyone. It just isn't possible, and even if they did try and become too huge, it would just become a very slow and sluggish monolithic company. Apple should remain relatively small and continue putting out a couple of great products.
As for cell phones, my girlfriend gave me her old cell phone, but as long as mine has the various tones, I'm happy. I'm not very interested in the 3,000 and one extra features I can have on my phone. So it would probably be best if Apple didn't try and make its own phone, especially if the companies now are putting out new phones fairly often.
