Eagandale: again thanks for the info. I'm not ordering through Apple. Rather I am ordering through the military exchange system. I wish the exchange would offer some of the same deals as Apple. Benefit of ordering via exchange, no tax, free shipping, and terrific financing!!

So when I order the printer I'll order the track pad. Don't need fax, so I'll look for a printer that scans and prints.

Gonna be some growing pains!!!!

Being that my wife will still be using a PC laptop, I'll need a wireless printer, any suggestions?

If you get an Airport Extreme, you can plug a non-wireless printer into its USB port and both iMac and PC laptop can use that printer. That's how I have it set up at home.

I also think it's possible to have your wife's PC laptop use a shared printer that is USB connected to your iMac.

The details now escape me, but you have to have Bonjour (Apple) software on the PC, IIRC

A decision has been made:D

First off let me thank all of you that have provided input. The decision as to what screen size to purchase prompted me to stop by Best Buy. Not my favorite store.

Anyway, a nice gal approached me as I was looking over all the machines and reading the info tags. She was very helpful. We discussed usage and the pro's and con's of laptop verses desktop. I was very surprised that she was as knowledgeable as she was. She demonstrated the Mac Book Pro as well as the iMac.

The iMac won hands down. I never realized the "coolness" of a Mac. So probably within the next couple of hours I'll be placing my order for the iMac 21.5 w/500gb HD.

She recommended I buy iWorks, MobileMe, Airport and Track Pad. I doubt I order all that stuff right away, I figure y'all will let me know what I need and don't need.

Thanks again for all your help.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

Yay!! the :apple::apple::apple: iMac :apple::apple::apple: Won!!

Ya know sometimes going to the store and putting your hands on stuff makes a world of difference. So yup, I fell in love with the iMac. Should be here before the week is out, so maybe I'll have the entire weekend to play.

I was pretty surprised that you hadn't handled the iMac earlier. :)

I was a Mac user until Windows 95 came out, and I've only within the last year come back to the Mac. I'm glad that I made the switch, and the transition was very easy. If, as you said, you can hook PCs up in your sleep, you'll be able to set up your iMac in a coma. Let us know how you like it.

Pipper: I think the deal changer was actually comparing side by side the iMac and the laptops. I had played with the iMac once before, but never made comparisons.

Just bought an Epson NX625, on sale at Office Depot for like $80, this may be one of those items that "you get what you pay for." All the reviews seemed pretty good, so hopefully it's not a mistake.

Edit about 30 min after I posted this: Just read where Yahoo Finance's Financially Fit rated this printer as the #2 best buy for printers under $200. So maybe I did okay, $.03 per page!

Also for data transfers is your external drive FAT32 or NTFS? Macs cant write to NTFS so now would be a good time to check that out....

Well it looks like my iMac won't arrive until Tuesday:(. Not sure what happened, I think the shipper didn't notify FedEx in time. Oh well, Tuesday will be filled with excitement!

Got my first imac last Wednesday, base 21.5" model, and it couldn't have been easier to set up and connect my printers and external drive.
The machine found the drivers, all I had to do was switch them on !!

Should have made the move from PC years ago.

I'm hoping to have the same experience. Can't wait, but I have to, at least 'til Tuesday.

Omigosh!!!!!!!!!! Got the new iMac today. By far the easiest setup I've ever done and I have two power cords under the desk. One for the Mac and the other for the printer.

I could not believe how easy it was to setup the wireless. I mean this thing found my network and everything.

I can tell I have some learning to go through, but so far easy peasy.

Only thing I haven't figured out is how I set the display so it always open with a med large font. And how to make the window open to the size of the screen.

I haven't read any manuals yet, so I'm sure my answers lie within. And the screen is soooooooo huge!

What else do I need to know?

Thanks to all those that helped in my decsion procss.
