I would say the Ipad will be dead in a few years time, you just have to look at the progression windows is making. Tablets that are getting as small and thin as the ipad, yet have the functionality of a true computer.
iPads have awesome hardware, but the software is basic as hell.

I'm gonna get the surface pro 4 if/when it comes out.
Thanks! more people like you are needed (who will buy a competitive product) to get Apple to respond. It happened with 7" tablets. It happened with phablets. The more successful that 2-in-1 hybrids and Surface in the market, the more Apple will take notice and produce one of their own.

Sorry to hear. There is a Mac app called iExplorer that backs up all your text messages to your Mac. Also voicemail.

I know it can back up messages, but it can't transfer them to a new phone... :(

Back before 8.3 prevented access to the file system through Iexplorer, I nearly did do a transfer, with just the essentials but things happened and I didn't get to do it.

I'd be sad if they dropped the Mini. The Air is much nicer than the originals but the Mini is the perfect size for the way it's used most in my house: by my kids.
I agree, the mini is an excellent device for kids. With a proper kid-case on it they're very durable, surviving drops easily.

Apple is in a position of strength as always. Overflowing with cash, they have the luxury of all the time they like to decide how they wish to move forward.

Other than this slowing of sales, which happens in any products lifecycle. I don't see any concern. Apple is highly capable of responding appropriately.
