I highly doubt this, especially after the pandemic. If anything, Apple tends to take its time in these matters, whether it’s AirTags, mini-LED displays, new Apple Watch sensors, an updated Apple TV, etc. It isn’t going to enter a massive new commercial sector years ahead of schedule.

Cars are not like iPhones, you can’t announce them and then have them all shipped and ready to go a week later.

Yeah, I'm a bit of a car enthusiast, and I follow a decent amount of the industry, and you're right on. The development cycle, that involves on-road analysis, crash testing, building out a service network (assuming they'd need to do this with mobile service), major considerations over building and distributing a 4000 lb vehicle vs. a smartphone, there's just a ton of logistics to putting a car on the road. Look at some of the up-and-coming new companies like Lucid, Rivian, you can see the visibility of the process. Even Tesla who moves reasonably quick has continuously pushed back the Roadster, the S Plaid, the Cybertruck, and a number of major, established manufacturers are years away from a (B)EV and they've got vehicle production expertise already in place.

Even if Apple had a ton of development already done, they'd still be a good 2.5-3 years out from getting anything on the road.

Do people really think Apple is going to truly make an actual car? I'm going to guess what they are doing might be just an Apple designed in-dash unit and partner up with high end car makers.

Just like the Apple TV. People was rumoring and assuming that Apple would make an actual TV set. That never happened. All there is is a set top box.

Not needed, Apples never crash.

If Apple made a car I can only imagine form over function, no steering wheel buttons or any buttons in general ect.

No controls at all except for a gas pedal and a (click?) steering wheel with a single button in the center (horn). You have to do everything else by asking Siri. Also no instrument panel.

Me: Siri, how fast am I going?
Car: You are going 85 miles per hour.

Me: Oh S**T!

Hope it's submersible.

If it starts giving you trouble you just drive it into the Apple store..and wait 2 hours for an APPLE genius.
This is the exact reason I'd never buy an Apple car. The worst part of an Apple product is if you have trouble and have to take it to the Genius Bar. The general arrogance and denying of known issues is infuriating to deal with.

Apple's long-rumored electric vehicle is running at least two years ahead of schedule and will be released in the third quarter of 2021, according to Taiwan's Economic Daily News, which cites unnamed executives at Taiwanese manufacturers.

The report claims that Taiwanese manufacturers are preparing to ramp up for production of "Apple Car" components as early as the second quarter of next year, adding that Apple has been secretly testing dozens of prototype vehicles on the road in California. Apple received a permit from California's DMV to test self-driving vehicles in 2017, and it was spotted using Lexus SUVs rigged with LiDAR equipment that year.

While many sources have claimed the Apple Car will be released between 2023 and 2025, including analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the report cites an unnamed director at a major Taiwanese manufacturer who said Apple is targeting a September 2021 launch.

While anything is possible, the earlier timeframe is questionable, especially due to the impact of the pandemic. Earlier this month, a DigiTimes report claimed that Apple was in "preliminary" negotiations with automotive electronics suppliers, suggesting that its vehicle project still remains in the fairly early stages. The report added that Apple's chipmaking partner TSMC is reportedly working with Apple on a "self-driving chip."

Over the years, reports have flip flopped on whether Apple is developing a full-fledged vehicle or working on artificial intelligence and autonomous driving technologies for vehicles in general. Apple's artificial intelligence chief John Giannandrea recently took over leadership of the project, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman.

Given that automakers often announce all-new vehicles years in advance, one possibility is that the Apple Car will be previewed in late 2021, but not released. For now, though, the report should be treated with a healthy dose of skepticism.

Economic Daily News has a mixed track record with Apple rumors. The publication accurately revealed that Apple would be releasing a repurposed iPhone 8 in March 2020, nearly a year before the second-generation iPhone SE was unveiled, and it also nailed down the 11-inch iPad Pro. On the contrary, the publication inaccurately reported that a high-end gaming Mac would debut at WWDC 2020 and that AirPods Pro would come in several colors.

Believe it if we see it.

Apple is a technology company not a automotive manufacture. I’ll stick with the guys who have been building automobiles for the last 100 years and leave apple to building my phone and computers.

funny though, if Ford decided to make a smart phone apple fanboys would be rolling in the streets with laughter. But when apples decides to build a car it’s the next best thing since sliced bread.
