This case is giving me trypophobia vibes lol.. whatever the phobia of ripples would be.

They killed the glorious leather cases to virtue signal. I think this is a job for Sidney Sweeny, I hear she's into leather.

For accessories, I am really hoping for a revamped wallet with more find my features. There are really great 3rd party ones, but my gripe with them is that you have to recharge them. Apple can allow reverse charging to keep it charged and have full functionality.

They could just bring leather back. That’s what people want. Even if it’s “vegan leather” or “leatherette.”
As someone who was vegetarian for about 9 years, I gave pleather a lot of tries. Pleather sucks, is basically companies taking advantage of kindhearted people and it's terrible for the environment - It's just more plastic and the products fall apart quickly. I had a pair of really cool looking pleather boots that tore to shreds in less than 2 years whereas my leather Blundstones are going on 5 years of heavy usage and still going strong.

Apple is planning to launch a "Liquid Silicone" line of cases for iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro models, according to a hit-or-miss leaker known as "Majin Bu."

In a blog post today, the leaker shared images of the alleged cases, with some having a ripple effect on the back near the MagSafe charging area. The cases also have multiple cutouts for attaching a lanyard, which may be sold separately.

iOS 26 has a new Liquid Glass design. The leaker said the "Liquid Silicone" cases will have a "Liquid Glass effect" of some kind, but it is not entirely clear what that means.

AirPods Pro 2 charging cases also have a cutout for attaching a lanyard, and the iPod touch once had a built-in mechanism for attaching a lanyard.

The cases are described as "official samples," but we are not entirely convinced that they are actually designed by Apple. Some of the cases shown look rather bulky and low quality, so some skepticism is absolutely warranted here.

Sketchy rumors about iPhone cases are nothing new, and sometimes they do turn out to be at least partially true. There was some skepticism about the "FineWoven" name when it first leaked a few years ago, and the name ended up being real, so we are reporting on the "Liquid Silicone" name just in case that name happens to be the real deal.

"Majin Bu" has a mixed track record with Apple rumors. They were most recently accurate about iPadOS 26 adding a Mac-like menu bar to iPads.

Apple should unveil the iPhone 17 series and cases in just over a month from now, so we will not have to wait much longer for official details.

Will those be as “great” as the idiotically “sustainable” and “vegan” crap they released a few years ago?

Guys, the black cases are literally Casetify. They must be samples getting lumped in with other samples. Casetify is also notorious for enormous (and I mean ENORMOUS, look-at-me) lanyards. Get on an airplane. They are all over Japan especially. Case culture is very different in Asia.

It never seizes to confound me that Apple (and its competitors) spend untold hours and dollars designing phones that often cost upwards of $1000 but they're so slippery and fragile, you have to stick them in a case
Why though?

Slippery 👉 slipping 👉 fragile 👉 broken 👉 repair/replacement 👉 profit

Am I missing something? 🤔

Folks, don't fall for the tutti-frutti, phoney-baloney, plastic banana, good time, rock-n-roll Apple PR "leaks" to build hype. Apple's cases will be the same as they were in year's past, no matter what gimmicky material they make them out of: they will be substantially more expensive than nearly identical cases and will fall apart just as fast as nearly identical cases. The Apple PR "leaks" of a potential new name are designed to build hype and trick people into thinking something dramatic has changed. It hasn't.
To parafrase Deadpool: 'so serious... is this a DC movie?'

Put your slippery to hold phone in a liquidy glassy slippery to hold case. Perfect.

Lanyards are a great preventative safety measure for protecting smartphones while being active / walking / exercising etc. In addition to cases, glass screen protectors, magsafe phone grips / qi2 popsockets, they are part of a balanced way to protect smartphones from being dropped in the first place. Let's normalize lanyards and maybe get a bit of innovation in lanyard design. Maybe, some sort of mechanism to magnetically store the lanyard around the phone case while it's not being actively used or ... Popsockets themselves were actually originally designed to help store wired earbuds. Anyway, just thinking out loud if anyone's got better ideas.

Idea - the lanyard adjuster (used to shorten or lengthen the lanyard for comfort around wrist) could itself be magnetic and there could be a small dedicated magnetic area on the phone case where they landyard adjuster could be snapped on to when the lanyard is not in use.

Not sure how the case will be. Hopefully the cases come in nice colors at least. It looks like the base models will come in pale colors as per the latest rumors.

Paid 50€ (maybe 60€?) for an Apple iPhone 13 Pro Magsafe silicon case, back in the day. It was the first time I ever purchased a "premium" iPhone case, but what the heck, I was excited about my flashy new iPhone so why not.

Apart from poor grip, the silicon started peeling off the plastic after about 1 year of normal use. Worst iPhone case I've ever purchased. Never again. After that, I got a 15€ magsafe-compatible silicon case from one of the usual suspects at Amazon and it's got good grip and remains in perfect shape.

I'm in the market for a new iPhone 17 Pro this year; but for sure, I'm not purchasing another Apple case. I'm perfectly comfortable spending more in a quality product, but in this case (no pun intended), Apple really really disappointed me and I won't be making the same mistake.
