It is the other way around. The lazy/slow carriers will limit their market. No carrier can stay relevant and competitive if they can't support THE iPhone. If Apple finally pulls the plug, eSIM will become the standard extremely quickly.

No, they will limit their market. Carriers aren't going to be threatened by one phone manufacture. And it won't become the standard if it's less convenient which it is.

Water can still get in thru the SIM slot of pressure builds.
And although it’s IP68, it’s resistance is for a short period of time.
The 13 Is already rated for 30 minutes down to 6 meters. What example of typical consumer would need more? If you use your iPhone underwater more extreme than that, you probably already are using proper gears for the purpose.

Now, if the argument is for a “permanent” water resistance for years, then I might agree (the rubber seal on the SIM tray can degrade over time). But for the IP rating itself, the current iPhones imo are already above and beyond the typical consumer needs.

Lol, so clueless.

No. You think any industry Apple enters revolves around them, they do t and their are millions of customers in China or Russia etc who use SIM cards to swap around etc. plus carriers aren't going to bend over to Apple every 5 seconds cause they want to make more profit by ditching a manufacturing process or two.
Most companies don't offer esims and I can't see them changing that stance for 1 phone manufacturer that does not have the global controlling market share of the industry. Esims will come one day but not 2023. If Apple does that it will limit its marketplace. And industries don't tend to always follow Apple, ditching all ports bar one standard on laptops being an example.

The only reason phones are waterproof is to protect them from
The rain, and being dropped in various liquids like the toilet, water, beer etc as they do get dropped in these substances.
As for the years argument, well the battery will need replacing at some point and as far as I know you lose the water resistance when it is changed anyway?

According to @TheYayAreaLiving ? Sketchy rumor claims iPhone 14 will be introduced in September 2022 and iPhone 15 in September 2023.

One less Thing is getting eliminated. An inch closer to a portless iPhone. Let's get it.

I guess you can't do this anymore. ??

Haha. I just did this with my SO. However, the 13 Pro Sierra Blue and 12 Pro Pacific Blue aren't quite as contrasting! :D

Third party unlocking for iPhones are mostly scams. Unlike other phones, unlocking an iPhone means that specific iPhone has to be set to unlock status in Apple’s database. Only Apple and the locking carrier can set that.

Reputable unlock providers have been doing this for nearly 15 years. Although it’s pricey (50-100 dollars) it’s worth the convenience.

The ones doing it are doing it under the table where they have their “partner in crime” an employee in the carriers/Apple. That’s why it’s expensive, and it’s not worth it considering it’s a US only problem. Majority of the world have no such thing as locked phones.

The problem with eSIM is that a lot of carriers don’t make the QR codes readily available. When I was in Qatar I could just download the sim from the Ooredoo app. But with T-mobile US you have to call the carrier and request them to send the qr code through email.

The eSIM swap process needs to be simplified.

Just wanted to check on this. So many self-important people here thinking this is something that Apple would never do, yet the US version of the iPhone 14 eliminated the SIM slots. Seems reasonable that Apple would give carriers a 1-2 year lead time that eSIM-only is the way of the future for iPhone. Looks like Claro (the biggest/best operator in Brazil) has started to roll out eSim support: https://meuplanoclaro.com.br/prezao/esim
