With that argument, wireless keyboards make as little sense as wireless trackpads.

Particularly when they're missing a quarter of the keys. And that sets a precedent... You can have a full featured wired one, or a more compact, but less capable wireless one (if you insist). Adding touch ID to either a wired magic trackpad or perhaps instead to the wired keyboard would fit right in, and would eliminate the objections of power and security that doing the same in a wireless device entails.
 
I almost wonder if they will replace the magic trackpad with a force touch version once it becomes more standard in the macbook line. I can see multiple click "levels" becoming important in a few years.
