This is a MBP14 question. But there's more eyeballs on this forum. I hope you readers don't mind.

I worry about dust falling thru the holes in the speaker region of my MBP14. I'm thinking maybe a 'skin' would work to keep dust out.

I know nothing about 'skin' products. Please weigh in?

Would a 'skin' help to keep dust out? Would it muffle the speaker outputs? Do you have other ideas for keep dust out?

Thanks!

All you will accomplish is muffling the sound. The only dust you do need to worry about is the stuff passing through the air vents. Even then you don't really need to open it up and dust things out more than once a month or two, depending on how dusty your place is.

Most skins for the 14" and 16" M1 MBP have cut outs where the speaker grills are so you would be no better off.

This is one reason I like the M2 MBA speaker design without any grills.

Personally I would like to see Apple adopt what Microsoft did with the Surface laptops and put the speakers under the keyboard. The surface laptop has great speakers without any grills. Although even the 5th Gen is still pretty outdated everywhere else.

I honestly don't think there is anything you can do. I don't know if there is a fabric on the underside of the speaker grills to keep dust out or not. If there is then you probably don't need to worry beyond keeping the grills clean with a microfiber cloth. If there isn't then it is just going to happen. Maybe a spray of compressed air every so often?

You could put stickers over the grills but most likely any sticker or layer of tpu would muffle and distort the sound.

Ha! yea because a good chunk of those owners would rather live in this section and hate on the air day and night.
