iPad Pro Skip the 2018 IPad Pro it won’t have 5G LTE

Looking at projected 5G LTE Rollouts for 2018 and 2019. On the major carriers will be ready by 2019. 5G LTE will be agame changer bigger than 4G LTE was over 3G.

If I buy an iPad Pro I go full out and get the LTE Version which has GPS and LTE Radios built in not lackin like WiFi only units. And with Celluar Models you can pay them off slowly over time.

And iPad Pro with 5G LTE would make it a dream device. And an A12X Chip if true Apple is looking to ditch Intel soon since their own CPUs are so fast. I was all on board to buy a new iPad Pro but now I will wait for a 5G enabled iPad Pro.

I agree with your premise especially since iPad's aren't usually upgraded every year (for most people). But aren't you being a bit too aggressive with the 5G rollouts? I think the carriers will limit their initial roll-outs to a few cities with most of the country not catching up for several years later.

I know in the UK the 5G is only likely being talked about being tested by EE..like with 4G the rest of the carriers will take a while to get the same speed.

So I don't see it being 5G on tablets anytime soon.

We'll be lucky if this year's iPad Pro lineup has Gigabit LTE.

Apple's 5G devices will launch 2020 at the earliest, especially given how the western hemisphere is behind in 5G deployments.

Since the vast majority of users hardly ever use cellular on an iPad, 5G is nothing but a term for these users. Game changer? To really.

Shared resource so it would certainly be nice to have. In dense urban areas, it's not unheard of for LTE to slow to a crawl (1-2Mbps).

Just did a speedtest on T-Mobile and it's at 5Mbps now where before, I used to get 25Mbps.

Yeah - never had an issue with 4G on my iPad Air 1. My next iPad(6th gen) will have 4G and thats perfectly good enough for me. I understand what the OP is saying but I dont think most users will be affected by the lack of 5G support.

Don’t get me wrong - I think having the infrastructure in place will help a lot, especially in the area of getting better 4G LTE speeds. I’m just not to worried about needing the 5G antenna on my device.

Wasn't referring to hotspot use.

Cellular is a shared resource. Theoretical LTE maximum speed is high. As I mentioned though, actual speeds in highly congested areas may sometimes be practically dial-up level.

That said, true 5G rollout will take some time yet so I don't really see this as a dealbreaker at the moment.

Yep - and I agree, I was just clumsy in how I was saying I agree.

I was adding an extra point that 5G antenna on a phone would be nice for hot spot usage.

Meh, not on my radar either. I just bought into an LTE IPP 12.9 2017 edition and will happily hold onto it for a couple years. I don't anticipate 5G rollout in my neck of the woods until then and if it comes sooner and 4G LTE isn't good enough for me I'll just hotspot from my cell phone which is on a different personal upgrade cycle.

Download faster or watch at higher quality? Hmm, depends on where you are.

Networks in my area can sometimes be quite congested. I'm getting around 3Mbps down and 0.7Mbps up on AT&T when I used to get 10/2 before. I do believe those are too low for 1080p bitrates. Funnily enough, my current LTE speeds are even slower than what I used to get on 3G/3.5G (5 down/5 up). Likely due to smartphone penetration and prevalence of unlimited data plans nowadays.

That said, I don't stream video on cellular and current speeds are passable enough for my usage.

same here. I stopped buying cellular iPads when all the carriers started letting you do personal hotspots without an extra fee.
