EDIT - This can be specced up to 16gb, it is tiny in the corner of the pricing page. Thanks for pointing that out folks.

I was really looking forward to this event, thinking that I might get the new iMac. I actually have a fall 2021 imac now but use an M1 Macbook pro.

Was anyone else surprised to see that from the pricing your ONLY option is 8gb?

Trust me, for a desktop this is 100% not enough ram for most productivity tasks.

I find myself pushing the macbook and getting reminders in cleanmymac that I am out of memory and swap... Why would I want to have this on my desktop too?

Does anyone have any info on if the core of the M1 is faster on these either?

There are still some tasks in Premiere Pro that my intel based mac seems to do better and faster than the macbook, and this was disappointing to me.

I at least expected an M1s or something like that, or perhaps a 12 core version of an ARM chip.

- I'm surprised that you missed that 16GB is available too.
- Cleanmymac is crap in my opinion. You are not "out of memory" unless the operating system tells you so.
- Apple doesn't specify the clock speed of their M1 CPUs. Wait for others to determine, but don't expect any difference.
- Don't be disappointed that some task in Adobe software aren't yet optimized for M1. Be happy they have room to improve.

I can't believe they only have 8G versions. That must be base level stuff and you will be able to configure it with 16G when you order. I doubt it'll be any more than 16G though. :(

please post a screenshot for us of where it is available in different memory sizes.
Stop for a minute and read the product pricing page.

I see no allusion to there being options for more than 8gb, and I see no mention of "starting at" anywhere to suggest the machines can be specced differently.

This is the same way the sold the m1 macbook pro.

on the specs page maybe? The full order configuration page isn't available yet.

This is a device targeted at an average home user. It's performance and limitations are identical to other M1 machines.

I find myself pushing the macbook and getting reminders in cleanmymac that I am out of memory and swap... Why would I want to have this on my desktop too?

The real question is why would you use something like cleanmymac? It's completely useless and will degrade your computer's performance.

Does anyone have any info on if the core of the M1 is faster on these either?

I would be very surprised if this would be the case.

I at least expected an M1s or something like that, or perhaps a 12 core version of an ARM chip.

Wait for the prosumer oriented models (30" Mac, 14" MBP etc.).
