anyone tested it on powerpc?
oughta love opensource!

I tried to use Jitsi on my Powerbook 1.67ghz but for some reason I can't use any of my webcams, I have a logitech and a isight but both of them aren't loaded from the Jitsi preferences. Do anyone know any solutions?

Dude,

I don't know why you got AMD. What if you decide to hackintosh your PC? There is virtually no support for making an AMD PC into a hackintosh without serious modifications. Just my .02 on that.

As far as bashing PowerPC? Those naysayers can say what they want, but in the end so long as the computer and OS are doing what you want it to the machine is far from being obsolete.

My G5 Quad and PowerBook G4 1.67 are going incredibly strong, even though I have a 6-core Mac Pro.. and depending on what kind of Mac Pro is to be released at WWDC this will be the main factor in determining whether or not i plan to sell off my Mac Pro currently.

I wasn't bashing power pc, in fact I love old Apple machines! I was just saying you should get a new machine to use from day to day, it will support way more stuff and be way faster!

Concerning all this stuff, unfortunately in my opinion this is a consequence of the marketing policy by Apple especially from when in the last decade they jump to be a f*°§ç@#ç consumers company.
Before than, they use to supporting the old machine more longer, I can remember one of the Jobs speeches about when apple switched from PPC to Intel, he said that apple (just to let customers as me and many other that just bought a "old " machine a month before, feel safe) will be support the PPC world at least until the 2012!! The truth? Everybody knows it. Than come the real question from all the other hardware and software companies... if Apple quit support the PPCs why we should keep doing it?
Unfortunately they work in a way to convince people that, after 12 months a product is already obsolete, and the most sad thing?
The 60% of people believe that and, pay (even when they can't afford) for something that probably they don't need, because what they have works just great, but, just because everyone say upgrade upgrade upgrade upgrade..
Sorry for the long opinion, it just came out.
Cheers

Got any sources for that 2012 statement?

I only remember vague promises, easily interpreted as "PPC is fine for now, but don't count on it in the future".

At least on skype I use the iphone as webcamera (it can send the image from both forward and rear camera, also sound and can either use USB or BT, no config needed... not even having to turn BT on) The app is called iwebcamera.

Thanks for the tip, I never thought of using my phone as a webcam. That's one less thing I have to carry around!

I remember it was one of the speech before launching Leopard..

So, no reliable sources then? ;)

If they actually promised to support PPC until at least 2012, it is a big deal that they didn't. It is just that I would expect a promise like that to be easy to find on the web nowadays...

Anyways, really annoying when it is impossible to download old versions of certain applications for running on old systems (without resorting to unofficial methods and technically copyright infringement). Sure, sometimes there can be technical reasons for and old version not to work anymore, but that's hardly the case for all applications.
