Skype today updated its iOS app to version 6.25, adding support for new features that were introduced with iOS 10. Skype now integrates with Siri, allowing users to ask Siri to make a call using Skype for a hands-free way to keep in touch with friends and family.

With iOS 10 and SiriKit, calling someone on Skype is as simple as using the same voice commands you're already using. Let's say you're trying to call Lucy Archer on Skype. If you have her Skype contact information saved in your iOS device, simply say "Call Lucy Archer." Siri may ask for you to confirm it has the right contact--one click later and your Skype call is initiated!
In iOS 10, contact details for Skype users can be added directly to the Contacts app, which makes it easier to initiate Skype calls and messages through Siri without the need to open the Skype app. You can also invite friends to join Skype from the Contacts list.

Today's update also introduces support for CallKit, allowing incoming Skype calls to be displayed on the iPhone just like a regular phone call. Skype calls can be answered like traditional phone calls using the built-in iOS functionality, which means they're answerable from the lock screen.

Skype can be downloaded from the App Store for free. [Direct Link: iPhone/iPad]

My wife will love this. She uses Skype to talk to her family all of the time. That will be great for her! I don't use Skype all that much... So.. Yay for my wife! :D

What's funny is my wife and her family use "Skype" all the time.

Skyping with her mother = FaceTime
Skyping with her sister = Facebook video chat (whatever it's actually called)

The only person she used to Skype with would be her grandparents, but now she only does it when her mother is at their house and she brings her iPad to use FaceTime, lol.

Siri was a neat "toy" when it came out but four out of five times it doesn't understand what I say. I can do manually in a few clicks what Siri takes several tries to get correct or more commonly I just give up and enter manually. Since I use Skype outside the US I upgraded and tried using Siri. No joy.

As always, Google is taking their sweet *** time implementing CallKit in the Hangouts app.

Skype is obsolete.

Really? Maybe I should tell my 160,000 person company that we're using an obsolete product.

Can they at least fix the bugs on the Skype for Business app first...?
Received a message, only shows the first line and then deletes itself!

Googele's official app just implemented 3D touch, and hangouts doesn't even have it yet, so don't get your hope up for anything really

You are kidding right? Skype is not obsolete lol. Skype is a fully capable robust voice and video platform used by a huge amount of people around the world.

The last couple of times I had to use Skype, the audio quality was abysmal. Maybe the ancient tribes that still use Skype also have old hardware, I wouldn't be surprised if this correlated in the "family" setting. However I use FaceTime and Hangouts daily and never had audio quality issues, so I really think Skype is dead.

I use Skype all of the time as do many of our clients. Google hangouts?? Don't know if any business that uses it as who would they talk to?

Call quality is excellent throughout 2nd only to hosted VoIP and FaceTime.

I'm the opposite. Liking it more and more as time goes by. The app integration on iOS 10 has been so useful (in particular Whatsapp - my main messaging app).

I did that, but when I click it, nothing happens. Does it work for you?

Also another observation is that my Skype contact names sometimes differ from the corresponding iOS contact names as I usually don't rename my Skype contacts and stick with their default account names. So even though I add a Skype account to a contact in iOS, Siri still wouldn't be able to call someone on Skype if their iOS and Skype names differ. Am I missing something?
