I must have checked the app store every hour for the last few days. Not even waiting anymore. Given up, this is a pipe dream. It won't happen, we'll have to continue using the iphone version.

I think it's coming eventually. The YouTube video seemed legit. However, it doesn't look like Cnet was accurate when it said it had been submitted. It clearly wasn't, or if hung up for some reason.

this is just ridicolous. either for apple or for skype this is resulting in a big embarassment, there are millions of ipad users out there waiting eagerly for this and no official news for almost 3 weeks since the leaked promo video?

I am so pissed off you cannot imagine. I am an abroad student, I bought the ipad also to be able to skype properly with my family from everywhere...

Has anybody tried to ask about this, either on facebook or twitter or forums etc.? any news?

this is just too bad. f bad.

Why would Apple be embarrassed?

Why would Apple be embarrassed?

sorry, thought it was clear enough, I mean, we have two scenarios here

either

a) the promo was really leaked, so way too in advance of the actual application being released, and thus it is skype's fault...

or

b)as all the reports said, skype submitted the application for approval to apple almost three weeks ago, and apple for 'some reasons' (have you ever heard of face time?) has blocked it, in which case as an apple customer I would be really really pissed and could even consider to reconsider my position torward apple..

I don't get the anger... You are mad that a non existing product which was rumored didn't get released when a random person thought it would?

Your own fault for assuing it would be out. Until skype officially comes out and says they have an iPad app in the works and set to release this week you really have no right to complain.
No one promised you anything.

This still make no sense to why apple would be embarrassed.
Apple never promised you any thing, so even if they were to decline the app it would be between them and the skype developers. If anything you should be embarrassed because you based yourlife decisions on rumors.

Also, apple won't decline the app because it compete with FaceTime. There are already apps in the AppStore which offer video chat.. Like Fring.
Or skype for iPhone.

ah. so myself, and other of thousands of people, dreamt about skype's people acknowledging such product and stating it was about to be rolled out. good to know, thank you very much, you made the anger go away...

p.s. i dont write much in this forum. your post just reminded me of why

all apps which came out way before facetime...nobody would be surprised if apple's policy on the point has become more aggressive. on the top of this, skype is not just another app, is THE programme for video-calls all around the world.

this said, I shall stop here. There is not point in waisting your time - in fact, the practical point of my post was to ask whether somebody enquiried about the thing...but doesn't matter.

Link me to a release date that they missed... Oh there is none? Then they owe you nothing.

Actually you are wrong. Face time was introduced with the iPhone 4. The first iOs device with front facing camera for video chat.

The video calling features on the other apps were new additions AFTER there was a device which could do video chat....

Plus if you read the developer guidelines there is nothing saying you can not make such apps.

Perhaps a bit of a hassle to change your friends/family but Oovoo and Fring both do video calls currently on iPad 2. Download and invite your friends and family to join you. (Sorry if those products are only available in USA I don't know)

One issue I see with your thoughts is that Apple is sitting on the approval. Did it ever occur to you that the Skype dev team may have used some illegal system calls? This is why Apple approves apps or declines them, Aople may have tossed it back at Skype for an update, also look at Skype's history of being very delayed in platform releases. From my POV I would bet Skype is the only reason for the delay. Yeah it sucks but if you really needed Skype you never should have bought the iPad assuming it would be available.

I use Skype on my MBP to talk with my family on their iPad on the other side of the world. They use Skype on the iPad. There are no problems with it. It has not killed the iPad, and yes I found it in the App Store.

Obviously I cannot give more details, as the iPad is physically thousands of miles away at the moment, but I'm not crazy - I definitely installed Skype on my iPad...so, what, it's not an "official version?" In the App Store, of all places?

Possibly the iPhone version on the ipad.... Which is possible, just doesn't look as nice.

I don't thunk it's coming anytime soon now. That said, google claimed to have submitted their Google+ app a new weeks ago, and it's still not out either. Maybe things are backed up again.

If you're happy to jailbreak, then retinapad is a great app to display iPhone apps on the iPad in a higher resolution. I don't understand why apple dont use the higher resolution data for the x2 view on the iPad by default, it makes everything look so much better... Maybe in iOS 5?

Maybe it'd break the business of some companies (and therefore Apple, which take their piece of the deal) that release HD versions of their iPhone games at a much higher price.
