Hrmm, okay, after some testing, this works pretty damn well.
my MBP heat's up pretty fast when running video though (very cpu intensive?)
I phoned a mate with it last night (he uses XP on a laptop).. and we chat for a while, then i clicked my video icon,it came up a treat on his machine.
he didnt have a camera. then he asks me... "i got one of those playstation 2 EYETOY camera's, will that work?"... I said no...
after more chatting, and googling, we discover win XP drivers for the Eyetoy camera he has! hehe.. so we got to work and booyah, had it running, and it works VERY WELL....
His link
16Mb/1Mb ADSL
My link
1.5Mb/256K ADSL
the video was very very smooth, and audio was well in sync with vid...
I cant wait until Skype further refine this, (esp the cpu utilisation), etc... not that it's a problem for me, my MBP can handle it sweet, but yeah... I can see it can definately do with more refinement.
I'd also like more options, like ability to turn off my own vid preview window (pic in pic)... so i only see the person I'm chatting with, and my myself.
Skype kicks arse.
My wife is interstate at the mo. If she's online I skype with her, video.. (she has MBP too)... if she's not online, i just use my skype to call her hotel, ask for her room num, and boom, we **** skype -> phone.. costs me about 3 cents Aus a minute... dirt cheap
I love it!!!!!
(no i dont work for skype hahaha)
