cool. Didn't used to. I guess I better revisit. Have you used both, which do you like better, and why? It is hard to keep up these days it seems :)

I like the iPhone Skype when I'm not near, or able to use, the Mac. It's good for quick chats, but not for long 1hr+ chats.

i think if apple want to push facetime as the new skype etc then surely giving it away for free for all apple compatible products would make more sense!
whether you think $0.99 (59p uk) is not a lot of money, is irrelevant. make it free then more people use it

I don't think anyone (including Apple) disagrees with you. However, it appears that what Apple can give away for free on older Macs is limited by US accounting guidelines that apply to publicly-traded companies like it.

Read the two links a few posts up. They're relatively short, straight-forward explanations written by fellow MacRumor users who are also accountants.

I've found that holding an iPhone for such a long period of time isn't good, or comfortable.

But it lets you walk around, and make the person at the other end dizzy :)

Otherwise no noticeable difference? Kind of makes face time obsolete????

I use a MacBook Air, so portability is ticked.

Person at other end is dizzy when I'm spinning around :).

There's no noticeable difference, speed/frame rates are excellent, and FaceTime, or FailTime, is obsolete. I haven't used it yet, on my iPhone 4, since I got it in June.

On my Air, FaceTime seems to use significantly less CPU than Skype (for video calls), so I don't have to listen to my Air's fans spin at 6000 RPMs ten minutes into a conversation.

IMO, FaceTime being pre-installed on all new MBPs (and being included with Lion) is going to make it an easier choice for a video chat with someone that's never used Skype before. (i.e. "click the FaceTime icon on your dock and enter your email address" vs "launch your web browser, go to skype.com, download and install the latest client and create a free account.")

To me, Skype and FaceTime are both good tools, each with their own pros and cons. I'm glad there's another choice.
