Skype version 1.4.0.39 is a Universal Binary.

  • known issue: Users who created their account on Intel-based computers will not be able to revert to earlier versions of Skype, after they have installed Skype 1.4.0.39.
  • new feature: Universal binary: Skype is now made to run natively on both Intel- and PowerPC-based Mac computers
  • new feature: Web presence: Show your Skype status on the web and in your email signature
  • new language: Traditional Chinese

The best feature of all is that it won't start at all... :p

Hmmm... Same here. About to go trashing prefs and delving through the console...

[edit]

Pref-trashing didn't help. Console.log just says:

Check 2 failed. Can't run Skype

Huh?

[edit 2]

It's not just us: http://macupdate.com/info.php/id/15805

Looks like Skype have rolled back their release version to the previous one.

The version number shows up as 1.0.0.44, too. Interesting. :D

I suppose it fails on all machines very quickly.

It's working now as version 1.4.0.49. No documented changes from 1.4.0.39 seem to exist.

I got an e-mail from them the other day. If it's not bad enough that there still isn't a version 2.0 beta for Mac yet, they have a version 2.5 beta for Windows available.
