skype keep signing out when i switch to other application

hello eceryone i am having a problem,using skype on iphone3gs and would like to stay online on skype while i am doing something else on phone or when i am not using it at all....but it seems to be signing me off whenever i leave the skype application,do you know is there is any possibility to stay sign up all the time...or is there some other application which includes skype,msn,facebook chat which can do that??? I have the same issue with the iPad, running the iPhone version. It keeps logging me out when i quit Skype, even though i have backgrounder working.

Checked settings for Skype, plus I also have 3G enabled so I should be able to get a skype call when the iPad is locked but so far no luck.
