According to most news outlets, Skype went down, or could still be down, globally. Sounds like the M$ era has begun! LOL...

Skype crashes and gives you this error message? What exactly happens when you try to run Skype?

    same problem

I have the same problem. Skype doesn't seem to be completely down, but it is very slow. Denial of service attack, perhaps.

    rubbish programming

There must have been some seriously bad programming for a fault with Skype's servers to cause the client application to crash - and on both Macs and PCs.

Remond? Is that in France? :p

The initial "M$" remark was a joke. No one in their right mind thinks M$ did this...

It is quite clear from Skype's own website (now it's up again) that this is a widespread issue and the corruption of the shared.xml file must have been caused by a problem with Skype's servers. Much though I'd like to pin it on MS, they haven't had time to muck things up... yet.

    Thanks a lot.

Your fix worked perfectly. Anyone can tell what is the shared.xml used for? Is it to maintain sessions from different devices? Just curious.
