hiya, (i hope this is the correct part of the forum)

I hooked my parents up with skype (windows XP) for a 3 week trip to Alaska...

for a couple of nights they are in Vancouver, BC. when she boots up skype she can see our video but we can't see them....

since i'm an apple guy I'm not familiar with what kind of "window" she is looking at... I know on Skype for Mac the little "video" button is on the pop up window.... from what she says, she does not see a "video" button on her pop up window...

I hope I said that right.... any help would be appreciated.

thanks
dave

ps i've been bugging them for years to switch to mac! I'm almost there when i got my mom an iPod Touch (baby steps i was hoping) I just wish they got one before the trip!! :D it would make my life so much easier!!

I believe there's a setting in Options/Settings? menu to "automatically share video with people on my contact list"...this will start video as soon as the call connects...give that a shot.

Cheers.

sounds weird to say but I have to be exact or she will never find it....
so "options" is a heading on the top/menu? go in there etc etc etc..... I just want to tell her what "menu label" to look for..... I can take it from there i think.......

thanks again

From the main (compact or default) Skype view...

Tools menu -> options -> General -> Video Settings

The top of this window should now show a preview of their webcam; underneath are the options... they should have them selected as Automatically receive video and screen sharing from... (either "Anyone" or "people in my Contact List only" <-- but make sure you're in their list) and Show that I have video to... "people in my contact list."

it's such a pain/frustrating that they have a windows machine!!
