Hi all if I get skype subscription to make unlimited USA calls will using it on iPhone use up AT&T minutes?

its VOIP so it will use your data. if you dont have an unlimited data plan id watch the usage as it could cost you a lot, so use WIFI.

your using Skype's VOIP service not AT&T's phone service so only your Skype minutes will be used.

I did this while in France and it works perfectly. It is true that Skype outgoing is WiFi only. I never got charged for anything on my AT&T account, only my Skype account. It was a perfect solution.

Skype will not use any of your minutes. Its a completelly different thing that uses data not carrier minutes for calls.

There's been optimistic predictions that Skype will be allowed over 3G like iCall for a while now. It's been too long. I want Skype over 3G!

I too use Skype when I'm overseas and calls to US numbers work great. The great thing about VOIP is that you don't have to edit the outgoing phone numbers as long as you have them stored with +1(234)567-8900, +56 99 555-1212, etc.

btw, if you use Skype frequently, then you might want to change your QoS setting to "high priority", so it gives Skype calls preference over other processes over the same router. Otherwise, you can experience poor call quality.

Nope.
You gotta be on wifi and have the skype app open to receive phone calls.

I just downloaded skype onto my Iphone 3gs 3.1.2 and it cam up with a message saying "this version of skype only works on unmodified versions of iphones operating 3.x and 3.1x"

is there a way around this?

when i try to sign in it says:

" cant connect to skype "

" please check your network settings and try again"
