Hi all. I was wondering if, on my MacBook Pro, and a display/projector connected, we could stop the output for a bit. As in, cut the output, so that the display just gives the no input message, by software. Right now what I do to this effect is I toggle off display mirroring, and I use a very generic wallpaper, and that's what displays.

any help appreciated. Thanks.

Just a guess...

... I'm not sure if this will work, but have you tried pressing the function on F7? That's the funny pair of boxes that changes the display mode, I think. I've got a feeling it may just switch between mirroring and dual mode, but I can't remember...

Otherwise, I think the only way is to unplug the monitor from the DVI output. I think the DVI port is system driver controlled, so I doubt there's a way to disable it temporarily. But like I said, I'm not really sure.

I have a Penryn MacBook Pro, and the function keys were remapped. I miss the old keys:( And I wasn't really asking about if it were possible to toggle mirroring... I can do that and I know how to... but... toggling the external on/off...
